    No.
The maximum total amount of memory in the M6400 - 16GB.
The maximum amount of a single memory module - 4 GB.
    Maximum frequency - 1066.
It does not depend on the CPU (as Sandy Bridge). This limitation is the chipset.
You can use memory modules with greater frequency, but they will run at 1066 MHz.
And ... not all "fast" memory is compatible with the M6400.

    WBR, Alex.

PS. But no one stops you to check this...
    Dell Precision! Only!!!
    The rest - a compromise...

    Hi,
i just bought a Intel SSD 520 and wanted to activate the ATA Password for drive encryption but it is not possible.

The BIOS always fails with the Message: "old password incorrect" although there was no password set.

do you have any ideas where the problem could be?

Did the BIOS showed the SSD installed? I planned to upgrade with 2 SSD and wonder whether it works

    Hi Airborne83,

Just wanted to know how's your m6400 compare to your m4600?

Does your M4600 really blows the M6400 out to nowhere?

Would like to know because looking for an upgrade soon from my M6400-QX9300-16GB Ram

    Thanks

Has anyone tried installing other cards other than nvidia fx2700m, 2800m, 3700m & ati 7740?

It's a proprietary slot that can't accept other than mentioned. Correct?

just want to know, if a fx2800m can be used in m6400, why not a 3800m? Also if ati m7740 can be used, m7820 should be ok, right? Since they basically using the same chipset. Coz I would like to know if there's any native directx 11 that can fit.

    Thanks for the info!

I think they can all fit for sure, but there's a question of BIOS support. I'd like to try the M7820 option in my M6400 to upgrade the FX-3700M, but they're too expensive to be gambled with.

I was thinking the same thing too. It is really too expensive to try something that nobody has tried before, unless you can get it at less than usd100.......
