Yup, the jack needs to be replaced, so you need a new motherboard.

Actually, it's it's like the E6400, then it's a separate board (I guess they figured that the sound jack could break, so they separated the board)

This system already had the system board replaced, which is why it was so strange it didn't go away. We finally realized the jacks are on smaller card that didn't get replaced, so that explains it.

SATA, 9.5mm thick. It's the same basic burner as used on the E6xx0 series except that the media module for the latter includes a release mechanism.

did the e4300 always came with a LED screen, or the first batches were with a regular LCD? I am on the market for a used e4300 and I would like to know. there is one from 10/2008 and in the system configuration on dell warranty it stays P703F ASSEMBLY..., LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 13.3WX, CAMERA..., RED..., E4300.

    can anybody help?

The early E4300 was reviewed here. There was then a pause and the E4300 reappeared in the form reviewed here. The visible difference is the replacement of a one piece base (as on the E64x0) by some separate covers.

    The first review says:
Screen: 13.3 inch, WXGA LED Backlit (matte finish)

Hey, has anybody had any troubles with the keyboard backlight failing? I woke up this morning in the dark... The only thing that recently changed was updating to the A20 BIOS rev.

Ha, silly me... the Sys. Manager from Dell had the level set to zero!

Dell changed more then a few things on this model.

One was the addition of a lip to the lid, I guess to make it easier to open the lid. I never liked the looks of it however.

I had to send an E4300 back "return to depot" service. We replaced the motherboard and it still would not turn on. It would also blow the dock power supply when docked. The Dell Tech they sent out for me after I replaced the motherboard recomended Return to Depot service. Never tried it before. Hope it works. I want the older E4300 as my PC shop laptop.

The lip is for the WWAN antenna. I agree though, it's functional but doesn't look too great.
