Well, I mean, how much are you willing to pay? Once you get into the $7 to $10 range, you can go buy the entire keyboard with the cap on eBay...

Yup, I ordered a D410 keyboard on ebay last month, $20 shipped...but it came with the cat-tongue cap.

Some of the D420 keybds on ebay show the nubbly cap...when they cost $25+. Maybe one of those vendors can pull the caps for separate sale.

Meanwhile, if anyone here wants to part with theirs, just lemme know.

EDIT: In fact, even the E-Series may be able to accept the same type of cap; I just tried fitting my E6400 cap onto my D620 and that works too
Are you saying that if I purchase a trackpoint cap that fits a D-series Latitude, that it would work on my Precision M4400?

I'm almost positive the M4400's use an identical keyboard/trackpoint cap as the E4xxx-series Latitudes.

Quick check with some calipers show the M4400 post is 3.05mm, and the hole in the bundled cap is 2.54mm.

    Yes.

You're right. They do. The caps are also the same on the E6000 series and the E5000 series.

Right. But the cap is rubber and will stretch a bit in order to ensure a tight fit. Given that your measurement is accurate, the post on all the D-Series keyboards should also be very close to 3.05mm.

Yeah, I knew they stretched -- but I figured I'd give accurate unstretched measurements for those looking to do something similar

Thanks! I'll scrounge around eBay and the sort for trackpoint caps now!

TrackCap.com says part number 03X705 fits the E4300 and the D400-D410, D600-D610, D630, D800-D810 notebooks -- I threw the part number into eBay and found a two-pack for ~$8 (w/ shipping). I'm hoping it works.

    FOUND!!

I ordered KH487 (313-4188) from Dell, and despite the picture on their website, they ~are~ the bumpy ones.

They cost almost $10 each after shipping...and they still suck compared to my Thinkpads...but they are infinitely better than the scratchy lumps that came with Dx00 and Dx10.

Now I have to try the E-series caps. They look kinda like the Thinkpad soft-rims, which are pretty nice. Does anyone on this lame laptop marketing forum have a part number?

Thanks for sharing! I almost bought PH102 (the 100-dot version) after Dell's customer service phone support's suggestion, but found KH487 on Dell.com after learning that the proper name is "pointing stick cover" and just purchased it there ($22 after tax and shipping!?). I am trying to cancel my order with Dell right now and plan to order through TrackCap.com (2 for $24.99 with free shipping, not sure on tax yet, but it looks like mail order only for this type).
