you are supposed to have 4 disks inside:
    1- Roxio
    2- Power DVD
    3- Driver Disk
4- Vista OS disk (if you selected Vista). If you have XP, then apparently you have no disk and have to live with the recovery partition.

My E6400 came with XP installed on the HDD but a Vista OS disk so that I can install Vista when the need to downgrade to XP is over.

In the past, I've seen the extra media bay battery (fits into the dvd bay) in the bottom of that storage slot with the disks on top.

I think if you have a refurb, you're not guaranteed to get the installation disks? Not sure, but I thought I read that somewhere...

EDIT: Nevermind, it says, "Guaranteed to include all correct manuals and accessories".

1- it doesn't mater they will transfer you to the correct section.
2- This laptop was purchased form the business section (Small Business, Enterprise, etc..), you should call them.

Just got a refurbished E6400 with Vista Ultimate installed. The box does not come with any OS disc. The other 3 were there. I called Dell, and they prompty sent me the Vista Ultimate disc. They also sent a blank SD insert thingy separately. Maybe they are required to send some hardware together with the OS software.

Also there were no printed setup guides or manuals. Is that the way with new units?

Another thing is that when the unit turns on, it reported that Windows cannot start. I elected to have it repair itself, and then it said that it could not be repaired . But then I was able to restart windows after all. Now I am installing Vista Ultimate 64 SP1.

yes! theyre sending me vista business 64bit edition. i talked to them through chat. it took a while but they were really nice and helpful. they offered to change the part with scratches if i wanted but i said no and id think about it and call later if i decided different.

it DID take some convincing...apparently they dont think this is a 64bit compatible system and there are no drivers so its at your own risk, HAHA.
