Still on the quality of the speakers, I play games with those speakers and it's fine. Naturally, if I put headphones, the sound gets better (essentially, more bass), but they are more than enough for basic sound.

For music listening, I use headphones, but more so not to disturb those around me.

Yes, you can get an adapter for this. If you have the 9-cell battery, you need a thin adapter as it could potential no fit due to the battery (as the 9-cell sticks out). Dell sells some. Yes, the audio is carried out on the DisplayPort port (I am not sure for the Intel option... but I'll be surprised that it does not)
DisplayPort is backward compatible to HDMI and DVI. However, it CANNOT be used as VGA. That is why the laptop has a VGA port

You could try and crop the plastic in the hope that there is nothing.

I know I am just judging from a picture... but the Dell one looks better quality in my opinion. And it's like the same price.

Of course not. This is just Apple trying to make money, with its own priority format (sure sure... they say they will make it public, royalty free... but they know that it's only them that they will ever use it, and you'll be forced to buy Apple adapters)

I am completely satisfied except for a couple things:

the touchpad sucks.
the HDD makes some clicking but i read a thread that shows how to get rid of it. it also vibrates a bit but that doesnt seem to bother me...i guess its normal with the crappy seagate drives lol.

THERE ARE SOME SCRATCHES AND SMUDGES ON THE LID!

since its a refurb i dont mind as much, but i thought that this would consider it to be a scratch and dent...should i call them and see what they can do?

It really is pretty quiet so far...and NO WHINING NOISES!!

oh yeah, dont see any windows install disc, which i would have liked. also, i definitely do hear a fan running constantly...which doesnt really bother me a ton, but i thought it was supposed to be off most of the time. also, i definitely think there is some flex to the keyboard, which isnt a problem at all because that doesnt bother me, but i figured id mention it since the reviews say otherwise. but again, i may just have no idea what im talking about! :P

Anyone need a 9.5mm height BluRay burner? I got my hands on a Panasonic/Mat shi ta UJ-232 and bought a ps3 so I no longer need it. They are near impossible to find and I figured someone would rather buy it aftermarket than pay OEM pricing.

I am sure you can call Dell tech support and say it's defective or something. Get a direct replacement of the part. Hopefully you tool Next Business Day On Site service. Else you'll need to ship your laptop... and they will see for them self.

If you set your system to High Performance and plug-in, then yes it's normal that anything will kick start the fan as teh GPU and CPU is at full power, and the CPU even OC 3%. But, set it to Dell recommend or Balance, it should diminish. If you are on battery and Power Saver mode, then it should run on rare occasion. It must be noted that if you play Flash video, or movies than it's normal. If that is not the case, meaning that even under battery power saver the fan always kicks in... then something is broken.

You should have it if you have Vista. If you have Windows XP, then no. If you have Vista, look inside the box... the disk looks like a Dell disk saying "Operating System". So you should have 4 disks:
- Roxio
- Power DVD DX
- Vista OS disk of the version OS drivers.

This is considered no flex. Go to a store and compare keyboards on laptops... you will see that they are some that FLEX! Like you press and the optical drive bends down and blocks the disk from spinning. A minimum flex is important as it add resistance but not brake the screen when it's being squished. Apple MacBook (Pro) keyboard does not flex... as a day-to-day student I see A LOT of broken MAC screen. My guess is that it plays a role. Also, it's because the mouse pointer is click-able. That is correct, if you tap on the mouse pointer (the circle thing on the keyboard) it acts like a click. So, to not brake the plastic.. it flex a tiny bit. The tapping force is adjustable in the mouse property panel. By default, I think, it's set to hard tap. You must remember that anything will flex... you just need to use the more pressure. If you are an insane guy... then yea this laptop keyboard will flex

I'd have to agree that the keyboard on the Latitude has no flex (mine is the non-backlit version).

There are two ways of getting rid of the HDD clicking if you have the seagate model.

One is to download HDparm and run the unclick program (you can find it searching these forums) to alter the HDD behaviour.

Alternatively, Dell had a firmware upgrade to DE16 for the seagate HDD that also fixed the problem.

Also make sure you download the latest Alps Touchpad driver from the Dell support and drivers website.

its on dell recommended. i think the lowest fan speed runs pretty much always. im not worried about the scratches but was wondering if minor cosmetic imperfections are normal on refurbs. it seems that they are, so i guess im okay. any other info would be appreciated though!

the only discs that came with it are power dvd, roxio, webcam drivers, and a disk for e6400 drivers.

also, is it normal for the battery to have a bit of wiggle?
