I have both the fingerprint reader and webcam and have never used them, so you won't miss much. The backlit keyboard would be nice.

I thought all E6400s came with backlit keyboards as standard? I can't see any on the outlet that say anything other than:

    Keyboard Internal UK/Irish Qwerty Keyboard

And yeah it comes with the 3 year warranty:

    709-10184 3Yr Basic Warranty - Next Business Day - Minimum Warranty 1 S

So the bottom line cost with VAT and delivery is £721.91

That is not correct. For example, the one I ordered is not backlit. From what you stated, yours is also not backlit.

I'd like to ask those few of you who already have the E6400 in your hands: have you tried these new Nvidia laptop drivers that everyone is so hyped about? Are they useful?

The past few messages have been about purchasing the E6400. I have some advice on the Hitachi 7200 RPM HDD.

My own experience with the Hitachi 120 GB 7200 RPM HDD has been average. It's performance advantage over a 5400 RPM drive is so marginal, it's not worth the higher price.

I've just purchased an LG XD1 Combo eSATA 250 GB portable external HDD. I'll post the review and a comparison with the Hitachi drive soon.

Dell Latitude E6400, P8400, 4 GB RAM, 120 GB 7200 RPM Hitachi HDD, nVidia Quadro NVS 160M, 1440x900 LCD, 9 Cell battery, Dell 1510 WLAN, Dell BT 370, Vista 32 Business SP1

The new official Nvidia driver for the Quadro NVS doesn't work with the Latitude's NVS 160M. It's an exception (along with some Thinkpads) that's mentioned on their site. So, tough luck for us.

You could try the other drivers on www.laptopvideo2go.com but they are only partially compatible and functional with the Latitude's NVS 160M. In most, the temperature sensors don't work and some of them aren't compatible with the ACPI functions for Sleep and Hibernate.

That sounds like a serious drawback, as if Nvidia does not officially support these laptops. Is this the case?

You need to go to the Dell Large business site to see the keyboard configuration options. +£34 + VAT, IIRC. It used to be on the Small / Medium business site but, for some unknown reason, was removed.

You might be in for a surprise and get one. The specs posted in the Outlet are not fully detailed.

Well that's going to be an issue since I quite often have my IBM's thinklight on. Has the supply of backlit keyboards dried up or something since there's no option to specify one on a new latitude...

The consensus seems to be that the NVS 160M in the Latitude has been modified to Dell's requirements. Therefore the common driver is not compatible with it. So we are stuck with Dell's drivers for now.

Oh I do see it, three "continue"s deep into large business latitude configurator . Why have different sections with some options available in one and more available in the other. I wouldn't even think of going into large business.

I'll probably phone them up in the morning, if it's not backlit I assume getting the part and replacing it after isn't a problem? It's not like changing the graphics card...
