    Default Inspiron 6400 screen problems

    Hi guys,

I have a dell inspiron 6400 laptop screen problem, the screen was intermittently flickering before going black. The problem has got worse and the screen is now black, except for a flash of the dell lego on start up.
By using a torch I can see my desktop icons and the laptop works ok with a remote monitor.

This led me down the road of replacing the inverter (twice) which I have done, but to no effect. This leads me to believe it could be a mobo problem rather than the screen. What do you guys think?

Edit - Also ran dell diagnostics disc, but it did'nt find any probelms.

If you have the Nvidia or ATI graphics card, I would try replacing it.

I would try the screen and the LVDS cable. Inspiron 6400 stuff is pretty cheap.

Probably an inverter/backlight/LVDS issue. I think Tsunade's approach is a good place to start; if that doesn't work try the inverter, and if that doesn't work, you'll have to replace the backlight/display.

    Hi,

Along with the above steps, you could also try connecting an external monitor to confirm, if the display is fine on the external screen. If the display on the external screen is fine, it confirms, that the LCD or the screen itself is faulty, as you have already replaced the cable.

Kindly update the results and Region of your stay as well.

    Thanks,

It was a backlight failure, replaced screen and now working.

    Thanks for all the advice.
