problem with speakers dell inspiron N5110
hi!
I bought dell inspiron n5110 about a week ago and I have a problem with the speakers..
they are working (producing sound) but they are producing this noise, like I have turned the volume to maximum on a bad quality speakers (like those old radios).. not sure how to explain it, but it's happening even if the speakers are set to 20% of the volume..
I tried reinstalling the drivers and codecs, but nothing helped.. it's not associated with the program I use for listening to music or with the loudness of the speakers..
any idea what this could be?
thank you for your answer!

Re: problem with speakers dell inspiron N5110
Does this also happen if you connect external speakers or headphones?
Is the sound muffled? or staticy (if that is a word)
If it is muffled it may help proping up the machine since I read the speakers fire downwards in a review on this site.
If it is static, it may be a bad internal connection, can you get to the speakers easily for a visual inspection?Last edited by JOSEA; 1st August 2011 at 12:45 PM.

don't have external speakers to connect (sorry), but it didn't happen when I connected the headphones... so far... maybe it would happen after a while... but so far, no.. no problem with the headphones plugged in... :/

Re: problem with speakers dell inspiron N5110
sound isn't muffled, it's more like this staticy you mentioned.. it's like cracking and buzzing at the same time..
unfortunately, I can't inspect the speakers visually and I can't open up my laptop cause I'll loose my warranty..
I will take the laptop to the official vendor but it's not in my hometown, so I'll have to send it there.. but since I don't know what could be the problem, I'm not sure if there is any point taking it to the service or if I should just try to replace it right away.. :/

I would wait out for another owner to add to this, There was a issue like this with some ASUS model that was fixed via software, I hope this is the case for you!

thank you so much!
I hope someone will have more ideas and suggestions and I'll try to find similar threads here...
I sure hope it's software related since the laptop is virtually new, had it for 10 days..

Re: problem with speakers dell inspiron N5110
Do you have the IDT drivers installed? In the IDT control panel if SRS is turned on there are a few options you can tweak, some of them make the sound on my laptop sound like you are describing.
I uninstalled the IDT app and let windows install its own HD sound driver and it is far better. No matter what i tried to do with the IDT app installed the sound quality was rubbish.

yes, I have IDT drivers... when SRS is turned on, the sound is terrible.. I switched it off (and then later uninstalled the IDT drivers) but it didn't help.. it's making the same noise even with the default sound driver...

Re: problem with speakers dell inspiron N5110
Hi, I've got the same problem as well on my Dell N5110 bought just a couple of weeks ago. As Noodlemantra described, the sound from the speaker is muffled, even though the volume is low. Please do let me know if you've got a solution to the problem. Thanks!

Did you try plugging in external speakers? Defective speakers isn't a non-rare occurrence on the new Inspiron line.
