Default Inspiron with SRS Premium Sound problem

    Dear all,
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron N5010 refurbished from Dell (Win 7 64bit home) and it came with SRS Premium Sound. The trouble is that the sound gets "scratchy" after the laptop has been booted for a while. It is fine after a nice fresh boot.

The sound out of both the speakers and the headphone jack is affected, which makes me think it is a driver problem. I'm using the latest driver which shows up as IDT High Definition Audio Codec in the control panel.

Has anyone else had and solved this problem? Or does anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

    Thanks in advance...

Did you use Dell or Windows 7 audio drivers?

I used the Dell drivers. The current ones on Dell's download page are the same as the ones that Dell shipped.

I just tried rebooting again and the sound is fine after a fresh boot. I'm looking for what application might stomp on the driver.

Can you record a video of the sound?

Maybe you can disable programs one by one until you've figured it out? Also there is an off chance your speakers could be defective. Reinstalling the OS will rule out software (fresh start) vs an actual hardware issue.

Of course now that I post about it, it isn't doing it any more.... http://forum.notebookreview.com/imag...s/confused.gif
If it starts again I'll see if I can record it.

    Thanks for replying!

Thanks, that is a later version so I'll try it.

I haven't had trouble with the fan or heat on this computer. The fan could be quieter but it's not on very much.

    Later...
