Req- A step by step guide to Remove IDT High Definition Audio in Windows 7
Hi Friends,
I am writing this new post after getting really frustrated from Googling all through the internet and not finding 1 decent solution.
I have a Dell Studio 1555 laptop and after bearing the pathetic sound quality both from the speakers and external speakers/headphones for months I finally decided to do something about it.
Apparently its not a hardware fault as everything seems to work technically fine but the sound output is really pathetic/high on treble and noise. Theres a word all around the internet that IDT High Definition Audio Codec sound drivers are bad idea and the default ones provided by Windows are much better.
Well i tried to remove, IDT Audio from my laptop permanently but to no avail. There is no option to remove at Add/Remove programs, so i went to Device manager and uninstalled the sound drivers. Upon restarting the PC the IDT audio popped backed in. So, I uninstalled once again and deleted the IDT folder but upon restarting it was back on again. Only that it took 5-6 minutes to install.
Can anyone suggest a way to remove IDT drivers permantly in Windows 7?
Thanks a lot.
Your friendly neighbourhood geek

Is it really that bad? I have it on the M11x, I don't use the M11x for MP3s, but I game on it occasionally. I havn't noticed much in terms of sound quality. Maybe I just havn't payed attention.

Re: Req- A step by step guide to Remove IDT High Definition Audio in Windows 7
To uninstall the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC driver under Windows 7:
1. Click on the Start button.
2. Right click on Computer and click on Manage.
3. In the left hand navigation pane click on "Device Manager".
4. In the right hand pane, expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" entry by clicking on the "+" button next to it or by double clicking on it.
5. Right click on "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" and click on Uninstall.
6. Check "Delete the driver software for this device" in the dialog that appears and click on OK.
7. Restart and Windows will re-install the inbox High Definition Audio driver.
You could also disable enhancements on your sound output (typically labelled as "Speakers / Headphones") which will also disable the hidden IDT Audio Effects (in addition, it will disable SRS Premium sound effects as well):
1. Right click on the sound icon in the notification area, and then click on "Playback devices".
2. Double click on "Speakers / Headphones".
3. Click on the "Enhancements" tab.
4. Check "Disable all enhancements", then click on OK.
5. Click on OK again to dismiss the Sound window.
Hope that helps, have a great day!Deioneus

Re: Req- A step by step guide to Remove IDT High Definition Audio in Windows 7
hi chinmay,
dell had released an updated driver this month for studio 1557,58...
the new driver is much better than the old one so u can try that coz i think 1555 will support it too. and in case u want good sound in ur external speakers just disable all enhancements in the windows.
in case u have sound blaster software in ur system, just disable sound blaster enhancement in windows when connecting external speakers and use music profile in srs premium.i get very good sound quality using these setting.
remember to enable sound blaster enhancements when using embedded speakers otherwise u will not get enough bass.
