I had three dead pixels. I don't think it's covered by the 1-year warranty, only during the returns period. I was talking to the tech about it and he said he's never had to replace a new (Dell at east) screen with dead pixels before. Shouldn't be too much to worry about

All I can say is I'm dead chuffed with my laptop!

I got my new 1558 yesterday, mine has a single bright white pixel in the middle of the screen, phoned Dell straight away and they're coming out today to change the screen!

Laptop seems pretty good so far, however the total lack of HDD/wi-fi/num+caps lock lights is a bit of an annoyance

Either way, I don't know if that is any good or not.

To amuse myself, I ran it on my desktop which has a rather old Geforce 8800GTS card and got 24.69 fps. The animation is visibly smoother. I didn't buy the Dell for the graphics tho! The CPU for my Q6600 was 2.52 pts.

The dell has 4.9 windows experience index points - let down by the graphics card! Next one would have been 5.9.

Our Cinebench scores are nearly same. I also got WEI of 4.9. I also bought it to do EM/CAD simulations not for gaming so I am happy with its performance.

How much max. frequency you are able to achieve by turbo boost? I got 2.79 GHz so 2.8 GHz specification is valid with me.

Is the turbo boost supposed to kick in by itself? I didn't do anything when the cinebench thing was running. Never went above 2.29 GHz but it may be lying?!

Have to agree. The lack of lights on the ethernet port is also amiss.

Yes. Until its not disabled from bios its automatic. since you are getting 2.29 GHz means yours is enabled too. You should get 2.79-2.8 GHz in some stress test. Check if yours is boosting to its full range. You can see the pic from my previous post its showing 2.79 GHz and I have read that this intel tool is pretty accurate.. I might be wrong though ..

Ok, just checked my intel widget and there is no mention of "with intel turbo boost technology"!

I just ran 3dmark and got CPU score of 10077 and graphics 955.

Just running superpi to 8m decimal places and highest rate is 2.26 Ghz. Me thinks I need to go and spend some time in the bios.

    Ok, panic over.

Speedstep was enabled in the bios. The intel widget doesn't display the full range utilised when it is a small widget. You have to enlarge it and it has hit now hit 2.79 at least once!

well this is good. atleast we now know that our processor is overclocking as it supossed to be.

I will do the PC vantage test today .. will post the scores soon.

Have you checked the temperatures? I've posted the speedfan results in my earlier post, interesting to see the comparisions.

I would have to disagree. The configuration I am looking at is $809 at EPP and $959 at Dell home. That doesn't include any coupons(there really hasn't been any for quite a while now), just configuring on the respective sites.

Configuration: Ruby Red, i3-350m, integrated graphics. 4GB's memory, 500GB HD, 6200 wireless, 9 cell battery, bluetooth.

During the Days of Deals you would have gotten a similar deal is not better......

I paid 1026 (including tax and shipping) for the following
    i5-520
    4GB RAM
    500MB HD
    Integrated Graphics
    Intel 6200
    1080p screen
    Backlit Keyboard
    9 Cell Battery
    3 year Accidental Protection

I did have a coupon, but would have come out to a similar price to yours if not lower if I didnt include the I5 (it was a 215 option at the time).
