keyboard keys - cleaning
Any idea if the keys in hel80 should come off? I managed to spill some sugary drink on a small spot on the keyboard, and now 3 keys dont have the same feel to them, they're a bit sticky to say.
So i thought i might be able to take single keys off, as in a normal keyboard, but i feel like asking here first..

ive taken them off and with difficulty put them back on. the scissor style mechanism on laptop keyboards is a bit tricky to get back on but not impossible.

One of mine came out on its own after 4 years, not sure what I did to it. But they are a beast to put back in, thats for sure. You might try a very lightly damp rag to try and wipe the stickiness off, baby wipes work pretty well.

Re: keyboard keys - cleaning
I wouldn't risk taking a key off and not being able to put it back in again. If you are unable to clean it sufficiently, perhaps you may want to look into buying a replacement if it is still bothering you. They shouldn't be too expensive or hard to find.

Re: keyboard keys - cleaning
You could probably disassemble it and take the keyboard out. You can then usually run the keyboard through the dishwasher, making SURE you don't have heated dry on. Triple-check it. Then let it air-dry for a day, and you should be good to go. The most important thing is to make sure it's just mechanical parts that you'd be cleaning, no blister switches or anything like that, but I doubt those are in the keyboard.
You could also just run a lot of cool water over the affected area when it's disassembled, until it behaves properly.HP Envy 15 | Win7x64 | i5-540M | Radeon 5830 1GB | 6GB DDR3-1066 | 256GB Crucial M225 SSD | Matte 15.6" 1920x1080Get your answers here!

Re: keyboard keys - cleaning
I tried taking the keyboard out, and either there's some trick to it after removing the 2 screws, or then it's glued in or something

Re: keyboard keys - cleaning
Definately be wary of removing the keys... I had an ancient compaq laptop at one point, and it had those plastic scissor style mechanisms under the keys. Broke one. Was displeased. Typed on it by directly hitting the rubber dome with my finger until the rest of the laptop died as well.

Give your reseller a call. They should be able to walk you through the removal and may even have an alternative suggestion to what we've all made so far.
