IFT00 info
I've been looking at the Compal IFT00 lately. I found three places that sell them, Rizeon, Powernotebooks.com and finally Xotic. Their websites offer a great deal of customization at reasonable prices. But for the life of me I cannot find sufficient information about actual user testing. Has anyone had experience with the IFT00? Specifically:
- Battery Life (9 cell / 6 cell)
- Heat / noise
- Size and weight
- Build quality
- Actual performance
- Aesthetics
Any opinions, even the most vague, will be much appreciated!
Thank you.

Re: IFT00 info
We've had the 3414W (IFT00) for a couple of months now. They are not extraordinary noisy, but not very silent either when the fan is running full speed. I've heard much worse fan noise. I have not got an exact battery life, but i would say about 2 hours with a Core 2 Duo T5250, 1GB RAM, 80GB 5400 rpm HDD and Windows Vista Home Basic and a Intel Pro Wireless 4965 turned on.

Re: IFT00 info
I will get my Compal IFT00 today or tomorrow. I'll write a short review after using it for a while.

Re: IFT00 info
Okay, some first impressions (Compal IFT00 14,1" Go 8400, T5250, 2GB 667Mhz, 120GB 5400RPM, Bluetooth, Excl. OS).
* Battery Life (9 cell / 6 cell)
The 6-cell battery lasts for 1,5 hours with everything turned on, but not really doing anything besides surfing the web. This was in openSUSE 10.3 + XGL which runs perfectly except for the sound card, which just doesnt work (seems to be a kernel/alsa problem).
I haven't tried the 9cell battery yet.
* Heat / noise
I havent done anything which needs alot of video-power, so it didnt get warm at all. It isnt noisy (quieter than my asus m6800n and asus a7jc).
* Size and weight
I like its size. It uses almost the full width of the notebook for the keyboard. I even think the keys are bigger than the keys on my 17" A7Jc :P The weight was about 2,5kg.
* Build quality
It feels and looks really good. When I saw the pictures I thought it was really cheap glossy plastic, but thats not the case. Everything feels strong, except for the keyboard which moves down a couple of millimeters when pressing keys in the center of the keyboard.
I'll make some screenshots today when I get home from work.
Overall I really like the laptop, but the battery life was a bit disappointing. I havent optimised my OS openSUSE 10.3 yet. It was just a fresh install with bluetooth and XGL turned on, so it might last longer if I turn oof some unnecessary processes.

Re: IFT00 info
a little background info...
"three months back when i deciding to buy a laptop, i wanted to get the compal 14" HGL30 but i was later advised that it would soon be discontinued and be replaced by IFT00. I wanted to get it but it wasn't availabe when the IFL90 came out in the US. I finally decided to buy s96s(I love IT!)."
now, this IFT00 system looks great and smaller yet powerful!. I am glad u like it!
.
Now about the battery life, for that notebook the battery life is a little disappointing. That battery life is what i get on my s96s(little disappointed too) but overall, imo i am cool w/ nearly 2hrs of mobility.ASUS S96S(aka TURBO Charged Porsche) T7100 santa rosa
