    Default UX32a-DB31 Windows 8 Problems

    I got a Asus zenbook ux32a-db31.
It came with windows 7 as you may know.
I then upgraded it to windows 8.

I am having lots of problems with it now.
The computer takes really really long to turn on, much longer than when it had windows 7. This is weird since its supposed to be faster now.
Also, when it goes into sleep mode, it takes a long time to turn back on and sometimes has to restart.
Any ideas of what might be causing these issues? I have done both windows and asus live updates and neither seems to have helped.

The driver for the ssd I have is for a 32gb sandisk, but what is actually in it is a 24gb ssd. I have no idea if thats an issue though.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

    Hi

Is the problem at the loading screen where there's a spinning dotted circle?

I've just upgraded m UX32A to Windows 8 too. I found Windows 8 booted pretty fast, until I downloaded the recommended drivers and utilities from the ASUS website. After installing the drivers and utilities my computer would take a long time to boot, getting stuck at the 'spinning dotted circle' stage.

Therefore I carried out 'PC refresh' by going to Start > Settings > PC settings > General > PC refresh. This fixed the problem, and now I've only loaded a very limited number of drivers that really seem necessary (eg the touchpad driver).

However, I do have another problem (unrelated to the PC refresh) with the SSD. I'd be grateful if you could look on my thread UX32A SSD problem: should SSD be visible in BIOS and Diskmanager? and let me know if the SSD is visible to on your computer in the BIOS or Diskmanager. Thanks!

Hi. I have a UX32A as well. I had the same, possibly worse, problems that you are experiencing.

Do a PC refresh. What should be recommended and is almost a must in this case is that you do a clean install. I originally chose to keep my files and apps, and I don't know what happened, but it led to corruption, slow startups, hangs on restarts, shutdowns, random freezes, and just overall a lot of these weird glitches and I had to hard boot it a lot of times.

I tried re-downloading and installing Windows 8 - but you can't do it if you are already on W8. So you can do a Refresh, which keeps the files but starts everything else from scratch. Now it is MUCH faster in terms of booting up from shut down and standby. No hangs anymore, and no random freezes. GL.

    Hello Everyone,

I too have been experiencing a VERY slow boot up (7+min) from the Bios-> Windows 7. I was considering upgrading to Windows 8 in hopes to fix this problem and wanted to know. If I format the HD for a fresh install of Windows 8, is there anything special I need to do considering there is a 32GB SSD?

is the SSD where windows should be stored or is this purely for the use of temp files as I cannot seem to find it in the control panel etc.

    Thank you!

Windows 8 compatibility issues are an epidemic at present. Sadly, it may be best to stick with Windows 7 until Microsoft and Asus work out the driver incompatibilities.
