ux32a problems
Ok so i posted some problems with the HDD ticking, thats getting a bit better so I assume it was indexing. At first i thought they are seek noises, now it may sound like the heads relocating or something? It sounds like something is moving back and forth continuously - it has a constant pattern... but its very faint... but annoying.
More problems:
Brightness of screen fluctuations: I use brightest setting but when on battery even on full charge, if i hide or close my internet browser and go back to desktop - it dims down for a few secs, then brightens up? It could be happening more without me noticing..It doesnt hapen when charged to socket.
Fan randomly comes on even when machine hasnt been used much? comes on then goes away and comes straight back?
Case clicking left hand side - getting worse, not the screws. Although why ASUS would be selling laptops with loose screws is worrying.
Sometimes it wont wake up from sleep mode when i close the lid. The screen would be blank but if i close lid again it usually comes back.
ok thats all i can think of. But i have to say this machine doesnt seem very reliable and im not confident in it at all - and £729 is a lot of money, this isnt a £300 laptop and i guess im dissapointed. Before this i had a sony fw21 and it lasted me for years without ANY problems, and felt a much more premium machine.
I can get a refund at PC world if it develops a fault within the next 2 weeks, but for now they feel like little problems rather than faults.
Should have paid more and got a samung 9, never again ASUS. Who the hell are ASUS anyway? Randomly come onto the scene and taking over. Next time sony/samsung/apple.

Re: ux32a problems
HDD ticking could be a bad drive and not necessarily hard drive activity.
I'd suggest to reinstall the OS. It'll get rid of the crapware that slows down the machine.
If the UX32A can take a SSD, then go with that route.
After I put in a Samsung 830 I no longer have that auto-dimming-brightness issue that you've described.

Re: ux32a problems
Yes upgrading to SSD would be ideal, I will have to see if its possible on this laptop. And the fact it will eradicate the brightness issue would be a bonus! Would it void the warranty?
Ironicaly I just read the review on this site for the UX32A and it says:
"The hard drive makes subtle clicking noises which are audible in an otherwise silent room."
Its true they are subtle, but theyre all the damn time lol And I like to work in silence!
I didnt get a envelope case, either.
