Questions about N76

Hi guys,

Looking at the N76 series of Asus. Like the built quality and reliability of Asus laptops. Saw that the new Nx6 series has been launched. And I was wondering if anyone has an answer to the folowing:

1. Any idea what screen (LG, AU optronics, Chi Mei) they put in the Asus 17 inch with regards to color gamut? I am editing photo's and videos and would like to get something close to sRGB (72% NTSC)
2. Is it possible to install a second HDD (or SSD) yourself into the laptop without needing to send it in?

Thanks for the answers! Now trying to find a dealer in Germany that can get me an English keyboard and OS...

PS, I am also looking at the new Envy from HP, although the Ivy bridge versions have not been released in Germany yet.

N76 have two hdd's so you don't need to install another one .
I don't know the screen of n76 but the model of the screen of n56 is in another thread (asus n56vz i think first impressions i think)

I was more thinking of installing an SSD in the first slot and have a standard HDD in the second slot. From what I have seen it looks like only the G series have SSD pre-installed?

Ragarding the screen, thanks I will have a look, but usually the suppliers and specifications for the 15 and 17 inch models can differ quite a bit.

Just to add:
From the thread JXulo mentions:
N76 screen seems to CMO1720. I hope its a later revision as this one has been kicked out of the Dell M6600 for seemingly bad quality control and excessive grain effect for a matte display.
I must add, that a review of the Schenker P702 (Clevo P170EM) having the CMO 1720 screen seems quite positive:

Other reviews do mention the grainy effect though. Would love to read a review of the 17 inch model to see if Asus got a new batch or spec. For the rest the screen seems good to very good.

i can confirm a pretty evident grainy effect on that screen

i don't know, since this is the first matte screen notebook i ever had. i can only say the effect is noticeable, but overall i guess is something you can get used to.

I installed a 256GB SSD in my N76VZ and it was easy. If you or anyone else is interested, I can do up a tutorial on how to do an SSD upgrade. If you need speed like I do, I highly recommend getting one.

I was thinking of getting the G75 as well, but even with the SSD upgrade, the total price for the N76 was still $500 less and more than suits my needs.

With respect to the grainy display, I don't see a problem myself, but from what I've read, generally people who are used to glossy panels seems to dislike the matte ones. I've always used matte screens and compared to the others, I don't see any difference.

If you want a killer panel, the Samsung NP700G7C-S01 is apparently as good as it gets right now (glossy screen though).

There's also an issue with a 'popping' type sound coming out of the speakers as seen in this thread:Asus N76vz. It doesn't bother me too much, but has been a deal breaker for some.
