If you squint you can tell that F3 and F4 have Fn labels, looks like keyboard illumination controls from the icons....successor of the U46... The next-gen model is slightly thinner and measures 1 inch versus previous 1.08. Besides 3rd generation Intel Core processors, the new Asus will sport up to 1TB of hard drive storage, built-in optical drive, and an 8-hour battery.
The laptop will be available in two variants: the Asus U47A with the Intel HD integrated graphics, and the U47VC with an Nvidia dedicateg GPU.

LOL of course there is always something just around the corner to make you wish you waited to buy your laptop. I just bought the U46SM but if the U47VC has an illuminated keyboard that is just what I wanted but gave up in my current purchase.

It remains to be seen whether the backlit keyboard makes it into production.
Early prototypes of the K53 series had a backlit keyboard, but none ever shipped with one.Sent from my immobile device using Taparock for abax

That's similar to what happens with Concept cars at the Auto Shows. Some designs are radical, not cost effective, and do not make it into production. But, this is a computer and backlit keyboard were talking about. It doesn't cost an arm or a leg and most consumers I think are willing to pay for the backlighting.
Its silly for the manufacturers not to offer the option but the bean counters are probably the ones who have the last word in such matters.HP ProBook 6475b

Re: ASUS U47A and U47VC - Successor to U46 series
On paper, this looks like the perfect laptop for me and I urgently need a new laptop. If anyone has suggestions on the best site to follow to track the release date of this Ivy Bridge laptop, I'd appreciate the names(s) of the website(s).

I wonder which nvidia GPU it will have? A 650m with GDDR5 would be my hope but given what has happened with the Lenovo y480p I'm not confident about saying that any 13-14 inch laptop should have that at least.

It's not odd at all. ASUS loves to keep the suspense at a maximum.

I'm not joking though, this is par for the course. Only the G series and other mainstream laptops usually get firm release dates from ASUS.Sent from my immobile device using Taparock for abax
