Re: K53TA.. The best deal ever... could be!
I'm getting 60fps (capped) in most indoor areas, 30+ in most outdoor areas with textures high, radial blur low, shadow detail low, and full water reflect. Using the 11.10 drivers, have crossfire enabled (probably not adding anything), RadeonPro for fps numbers, and have cpu overclocked to 2.3ghz b0, 2.1ghz p0.
I need to try some higher game settings later, but otherwise this laptop plays skyrim very comfortably in good detail. Game is gorgeous. Noticed temps topped out around 69C for me.

Re: K53TA.. The best deal ever... could be!
This thing runs so cool when you undervolt it its weirding me out.
Few questions:
Should I create two different profiles for casual/gaming, or can i just have one profile on k10stat where the max is 2.2 and I just lock that in if gaming? Right now my lowest state is p6 at 800 mhz at .8 volts, and on the unlocked pstate setting it rarely ever moves from there.
Anyone try running mdw3?
Are there significant benefits to 8gb ram?
When i monitor my processor speeds on coretemp while running assessments, sometimes one/two of the cores is not at max (2.2ghz) while the other two are--is that normal or should i just lock when running assessments?Last edited by mkjones1980; 11th November 2011 at 12:53 PM.

Re: K53TA.. The best deal ever... could be!
I downloaded it, and played a bit assassin's creed 2 to see what was working while playing it. I've uploaded a creenshot here, hopefuly it'll show up in this post. it shows that both 6480 and 6650 decelerate at the same time when I quit the game, while it shows 6650 having 0(yes, 0) mhz, so it is practically not working at all. oh, and my model doesn't have crossfire, so this doesn't make any sense at all. oh, and it sees 6650 as 6750, but that seems to be pretty common and harmless(it actually reverts back and forth between 6650 and 6750 in device manager every time I update the drivers). I hope you make more sense of this than me.hey, I bought this laptop a week ago and realized that the performance during games is absolutely horrible. it is a european model, so radeon 6650 with an integrated 6480 with no crossfire. the main problem is that amd catalyst does not register(see?) radeon 6650. I can see it in the device manager(as radeon 6600m series, the other one is listed as 6400m series), but it seems like that is far as it goes. i tried to update that specific car's driver by right clicking on device manager, but that only made amd catalyst listing the primary chipset as 6400m series rather than 6480g.
I don't know what to do, can somebody please help me? I literally scanned a hundred pages here with no luck :/
oh, and btw, what do you mean by this being the laptop you were wondering about?

Re: K53TA.. The best deal ever... could be!
I have the A6 crossfire version.
I was wondering how the A4 non-xfire k53ta handles openGL games like Rage.
Does it switch to the 6650m ?
The A6 crossfire cannot run Rage with the 6650m card.
Maybe you can get a hold of Rage somehow, or some older openGL games, and run AMD system monitor to see if the game runs on the 6650m.
Based on your picture, it looks like your graphics cards are functioning fine.
the higher red line is the 6650m.
During the game, the 6650m has a huge peak in usage. When you quit a game, it goes down to 0, which means the graphics card is turned off.
That is completely normal.
maybe your games run like crap because your settings are too high.
this is not a very powerful gfx card

Re: K53TA.. The best deal ever... could be!
No notebook that uses AMD's automatic graphic switching can run OpenGL games on the discreet GPU unless the manufacturer has released a BIOS update to add fixed-mode switching. The only systems where this has been fixed are the HP dv6/dv7, HP Envy 14/17, and all Dell Vostro machines equipped with an Intel GPU and Radeon 6630.

Re: K53TA.. The best deal ever... could be!
dude, you should read all of my posts here. I am posting because 6650 does not switch on for ANYTHING. the higher red line is 6480g, if you pay attention to it you'll see. it is the primary and the only functioning adapter in my laptop, and I can't figure out why. and no, I don't stress the laptop in games, assassins creed runs like crap even in lowest settings.
anyway, thanks for your attenstion. oh, and the asus customer service is still silent to my mail(s), not hoping much from them though.

Re: K53TA.. The best deal ever... could be!
you should look at your screenshot again.
Here, I'll post it again, with the lines marked.
The darker red line shaped like a mountain is the 6650m activity while you're playing the game.
the lighter red line is your integrated graphics.
your 6650m DOES turn on.

Re: K53TA.. The best deal ever... could be!
Turn off crossfire though. It is really crappy implementation for most games.

Re: K53TA.. The best deal ever... could be!
Yeah, I can get mostly ultra/high settings now that I've gotten around to disabling vertical sync and giving up on crossfire ever working.
but.. while the laptop does play the game well, I find myself yearning for some larger textures, no'mean. This top will really prove it's worth when someone releases a good texture pack.

Re: K53TA.. The best deal ever... could be!
guys, seriosly, didn't you get at least a bit suspicious about the screenshot showing 6650 having 0 mhz out of 0 mhz? it is not switched off, it's malfunctional, and a little graph can't change that.trust me, i have just played in windowed mode and can verify that this is the case. no to for screenshots though, got to go to my ing saturday lecture.
oh, and european model doesn't have crossfire, htwingnut.
