Is Asus any good?

Is Asus a good, reputable brand? Does it have good customer and technical support? If I had a problem with my laptop, would I have to contact Asus, or the dealer whom I bought it from? What kind of laptops does Asus make? Are they sturdy and do they last long? I am specifically talking about the Asus W3J. It is built well? Will it last me 4-5 years? Is it made to good material? Does it come with an XP disk? Does it come with a drivers disk? It it a better company than Dell? Please help ASAP. Thanks in advance.

Ok where do i start. Asus makes some of the best laptops on the market hands down. Remember there are only a handful of companys that make laptops. Asus,clevo,uniwill,twinhead,samsung,LG,
Dell HP compaq sony apple etc do not make laptops at all. They hire companys like asus to make large numbers of laptops for them. asus is one of the number one brands in the computer industry not just laptops. They make the best motherboards for pcs that are in at least 50 percent of all pcs in the world today newer ones that is. they make the macbook pro.

Now there are two ways to buy an asus laptop. One is an ensemble like the w3j it comes one way one configuration. it has a global warranty by asus. Their support is good not the best buy good. you call them send them the pc and in about 7 days you get it back. I think they are much better in that reguard than say dell. They dont make you go through a dumb list of things to try that have nothing to do with your issue.'

Then there are asus Barebones systems. they are systems sold to resellers that are customisable to your needs. they are cheaper than ensembles. and the warranty is handled by dealers. and if you use proportable.com geared2play.com or powernotebooks.com you will never see better laptop support in your life they are all incredible. And reachable at hours you wouldnt believe.

The W3j is a great laptop one of the best on the market. Its very well made its made of a carbon fiber abs alloy. light and stiff. with an aluminum lid. it will last 4 years no prob its a very good and sturdy. laptop. i would not suggest dropping it though.

Asus ensembles come with a recovery disk that is an image. xp can be taken on of it though if you know how. barbones come with an xp disk if you order XP loaded on it. they both come with drivers disks.

And yes there is no comparison for asus dell sony hp none come close in quality and are nowhere are well made. only IBM maybe some clevos uniwill and a samsung come close. I have used dozens of brands and asus has stuck as my favorite. I cannot recommend them enough. Hope ive helped. If you need something else answered just PM me or post in this thread.

thank you for correcting me didnt mean to mix it up. I actually did think it was the pros though as the v6 series and w2 series remind me of them.

Didnt asus make the old powerbooks as well?

... Is the sky blue? Of course Asus notebooks are good! Otherwise, this forum would be a lot smaller with less traffic. Within the past couple of years, Asus has built up quite a solid reputation in the notebook industry. In terms of build quality, they're top notch and up there with the best of the best. In terms of support... they're quite good - it just depends on whether you buy a BOA model or Ensemble model; either way, you will get decent support and a good product.

Goren made a point i was about to say is that Asus makes Apple Macbooks.

Asus is a reputable company that is respected by millions of customers.

To get back to your other questions, Depending on if you purchase a Asus Ensemble or a Asus Barebones (As SRD States) depends on where the warranty would be through. If you go Ensemble like the W3J you get a Asus GLOBAL Warranty but if you go ASUS Barebones you would go through the dealer.

Asus makes both AMD and Intel machines. There are many choices to choose from. The W3J is a fantastic model. Take a look over the many models available. Is there a precise budget you are trying to stay within?

You will always get all driver disks and Windows XP Disks. For ASUS Ensemble you will receive a restore CD, if you go ASUS Barebones you will get a orignal Windows CD for reinstallation.
ASUSis much better to go with compared to HP and Dell.

What can I say that others have not, but 1 in 4 Desktop PC's has an Asus motherboard, their pedigree is surpurb.

I have been researching laptops for over 18 months before I brought a W3J and the result of my research... Asus is the most consistent in producing fast quality laptops, and their build quality is much better than Dell.

I could go on for days, but check this out, it explains what others are on about.

Can't confirm the older ones.. although I am under the belief that quanta did the powerbooks while asus did the ibooks.

Asus is one of the largest ODM's around, and also one of the best OEM companies around. If you've ever built a desktop computer by yourself, you probably already know Asus. Their laptops are becoming more and more popular in North America amongst those who do their research for good reason. I myself am a Dell to Asus convert, and am loving every bit of my Asus laptop.
