Re: Asus U35JC/U45JC
I hope the U35JC isn't exactly like the UL30VT... I'm not a huge fan of the glossy palm rests.
The U35JC pictured here looks like it has matte palm rests.

Will the Silver U35JC sold on your site have matte palm rests as well?
Will GenTech PC have the Black U35JC available too?

Re: Asus U35JC/U45JC
GenTech: I was merely going by the first paragraph under the picture, which has the "only one with optics" tagline. The detailed specs at the bottom state that there is no optical drive, but the first paragraph of the page says that there is
.
Also, when you say that it looks exactly like the UL30VT and UL30JT...is that in terms of shape and size, or in terms of the casing as well? I remember the early hands on videos showed that the U35JC had this spiffy aluminum casing, and I believe that the UL30JT simply has faux-metal palmrests.
Any word on the U45JC's availability and pricing?
Here's a translated hands on review for all you other folks, which has some nice closeup shots of the finish. Some of the test results are baffling: a 3379 in 3dMark06...on the Intel HD GPU? I know that the Super Hybrid Engine/Optimus will muck up some test results since they operate dynamically, but I've never seen that before.Last edited by Chanda Bear; 1st July 2010 at 12:09 PM.

Re: Asus U35JC/U45JC
Hi Chanda Bear. FYI, GenTech have now removed the confusing opening paragraph about the optical drive (thank heavens!)
The photos (what few I've seen) of the U35JC seem to look like the upper side of the chassis around, above & below the keyboard are a patterned-printed plastic. I hope not. Yuck. I'd have thought they'd have stuck with the chassis design of the U30JC. But they didn't. The chassis design looks more like the UL30JT, except not black.
For the money, I still like the design & construction look of the U33JC plus the added improvements on components.
I'm not as impressed chassis-wise with the U35JC from the photos at GenTech or Xotic. When the U35JC, the UL30JT & the U33JC are released in the US, we'll at last know more. But I think we can confidently say that the early pics & brief article over at bit-tech.net were merely demo pre-release models and do not look like the actual models now being released. (Besides, what IS the "UL30" notebook he kept referring to and that looks like a clone on the outside of the U30JC?)
... oh, and on the topic of 3dMark06, since I oc'd the shaders on my 310M to 1720MHz (default is 1530MHz), I'm getting 3900+ on the test (I was getting 3700+ before). Nice. Stable too.Last edited by Quatro; 2nd July 2010 at 04:53 PM.

Re: Asus U35JC/U45JC
I rather like that patterned design, although I'm up for plain silver as long as it resists fingerprints and oils! The bamboo is nice and all, but I'm to much of a cheapskate for the U33JC and its siblings.
From what I hear, the U45JC will be around $870 or so if the price difference between it and the U35JC stays constant worldwide, so I will seriously reassess my need for an optical drive in the coming months. I hope the U35JC manages to stay cool and last for 6+ hours on a charge. I've almost convinced myself that getting a laptop with a real i3 rather than a CULV one would be preferable, especially since the U35JC and the UL30JT are the same price

Re: Asus U35JC/U45JC
I can see your point. $150 difference is a lot when standard notebooks are starting for around $500.
The pattern seemed odd to me probably because I was expecting an aluminum-type finish like the U30Jc. And, like in clothes, folks have different tastes.
Getting 6+ hrs on an i3-370M in the ASUS should be easy. My U30Jc gets that without difficulty, and it's an i3-350M (2.26GHz). Right now, I'm posting on this thread and reading reviews, as I've done over the last hour. I'm on "auto" on NV CP and "Battery Saving" scheme w/ 40-50% brightness. No video streaming. My battery shows "7 hr 20 min (83%) remaining".Last edited by Quatro; 3rd July 2010 at 11:51 AM.
