Max temp on GTX 260m?
Hi all,
I'm trying to find some reliable info on the max operating temp at full load on a GTX260m.
I know there is no temp sensors for the video ram, so some overclocking is hazardus at best.
I know I can overclock my GPU some, but I'm trying to test a combined overclocking w/ 100% cpu usage to watch the temps to see if I feel i'm in too much danger.
I'm using Furmark to get my numbers, with 100% cpu (OC'd to 2.4 GHz), xtreme stress test GPU I get 101c with the arc not flatlining (OC'd 600/900/1500) at which point I hit escape because the temps scare me. At OC'd 550/880/1375 I sit lower, but still not as low as I'd like (more flat / peak arc in the 99-102 range).
Now, I know the chances of running a game that takes max cpu and max stress test of my GPU are highly unlikely, but as I'm sure everyone can imagine, I want to be safe, but I'd like a bit more then stock.
I have no artifacts at any settings, but, as I mentioned, I don't want to push too high because I have no way of knowing the video RAM temps, and I read somewhere on this forum about not wanting to exceed 106c, but even that felt high... So any tips, or references that one can point me to with regard to max temps on the GPU I would most appreciate it!

Re: Max temp on GTX 260m?
550/880/1375 is not oc, it is still underclock. normal 260m stock clocks are: 550/950/1375 according to notebookcheck.

Re: Max temp on GTX 260m?
Ok, I should say OC'd from factory default :P
The other question is - should I even be doing the xtreme test anyway or am I really just pushing the mobile GPU too hard and instead should I just use the regular stability test?

Re: Max temp on GTX 260m?
anyways, try running 3d mark 06. If you get above 90c on 3dmark 06 with factory default oc, you should not use those speed. I oc to 550/950/1375, 3d mark 06 result in 88C while furmark went up to 98C at 300sec mark.

Re: Max temp on GTX 260m?
I suggest you pick up a cooler for this laptop, I'm in the process of doing so (and getting coppers too!). That way you can at least safely clock the card to the stock settings without worrying it going over 100C

Re: Max temp on GTX 260m?
That's normal for all G51s, but its not a safe temperature as mentioned in a lot of threads.
