Re: BIOS mod for ASUS C90S for 1066Mhz Wolfdale!
No problem, glad I could help. The real credit should be given to columbok and ken though for facilitating this awesome upgrade
Good luck with your VGA upgrade that is one thing I failed doing with my C90S as I couldn't be bothered to make a proper custom heatsink lol.Alienware M15x | Intel i7 920XM | 1080p | 8GB G-Skill | Samsung 470 256GB + Hitachi 7k500 500GB | AMD 7970M @ 950/1450 (1.05V)| External Sony BD5500S Bluray | Windows 7 | 240W + 9 cell | Bigfoot 1103 | USB 3.0 |

Re: BIOS mod for ASUS C90S for 1066Mhz Wolfdale!
How about update cpu-list from ASRock ConRoe1333-DVI/H R2.0? Supports 1333MHz CPUs! May c90s run with E8200 or E8300?

Re: BIOS mod for ASUS C90S for 1066Mhz Wolfdale!
I am afraid not aerosmit. The C90S has a 945G chipset that can only accept up to 1066mhz fsb core 2 duo processors that have a tdp that falls within 65-75W. As of now the E7500 is the best processor that will work. The E7600 may also work but it would function at E7500 speeds as the C90S bios ony recognises full multi's not half multi's so 11x is fine on the E7500 but not 11.5x. If you want to take the risk you could upgrade to the E7600 and then see if you can force the CPU to its full 11.5x(3.06ghz) multi using RMclock or CystalCPUID. There is a chance it is possible but this would be the very best CPU option for the C90S.
Still 3.2ghz+(by OCing) should be perfectly adequate until you get yourself a new machine that supports the i7/5 chips. Hope this helps and welcome to NBR!Last edited by King of Interns; 7th August 2009 at 05:05 AM.

But Intel E8200 TDP=65Watts multipler=8 and speed=2.66GHz. All suitable for asus c90s except FSB1333. On the official site asrock says that "ConRoe1333-DVI/H R2.0 Compatible with FSB1333 In overclocking mode. Under this situation, PCIE frequency will also be overclocked to 115MHz."

Re: BIOS mod for ASUS C90S for 1066Mhz Wolfdale!
It is the fact that the E8xxx series operates at 1333fsb that they are not compatible. The chipset is just too old. The C90P which is basically a C90S with a newer P35 chipset does support those CPU's.
Nonetheless the E7500 is a very decent C2D chip and is very cheap. Once overclocked it can compete quite competently with the faster CPU's in the E8xxx range(E8400,500) and at much cooler temps than the older E6600/700 processors thanks to being built on the newer 45nm process.
If you really do want to push the C90S to its limits then I suggest you try the E7600 using the methods I described above. If it works than you would be able to squeeze more power out of it than a stock E8600 would give as 3.4ghz+ could very well be possible to attain. Make sure you keep that receipt however so you can return it just in case!Last edited by King of Interns; 7th August 2009 at 09:15 AM.

Re: BIOS mod for ASUS C90S for 1066Mhz Wolfdale!
I just got one of these for cheap at work.
It came with a e6600 but I want to mod it like here and put something cooler in it.
Also sort of on the subject it has a bad video card. (crazy artifacting sometimes happens at boot but not always, other times it is fine but the VC hits like 100c)

What can I put in it and where should I get it from?
I see 8600 w/ 512 on Provantage for $135 but I'd like to go better if I could.Last edited by thebeephaha; 28th August 2009 at 02:17 AM.

The 9600m mxm ii upgrade by nightwalker is a good mod, about 150 on ebay. The mod does take some work, but there is a comprhensive guide. Good luck.

Since I've updated to a 9600M, I need no more my 8600.
So I could sell it, I'm in France, have to see for shipping.
If you want, just pm.

Re: BIOS mod for ASUS C90S for 1066Mhz Wolfdale!
Hey guys I need some help. I got my E7500 CPU today and went to download and burn Ken's ISO file for the BIOS and nothing shows up when I try to burn it. I am using Deepburner and Daemon Tools Light to download, unzip and burn but its not working.
Does anyone know if the file doesnt work right anymore or am I using the wrong tools to do this.
Thanks Guys!
