    Default Asus Question???

I am in the market for a 15.4" or similar size laptop. I came across the Asus and like the options they offer. But, why can't they be configured with a lesser HDD than 320gb or Less than 4 GB or Ram? Seems like the Asus's are easy enough to upgrade. Seems like they could be offered for cheaper with the lower end options????

I have noticed Dell does the same thing. You can't downgrade to save a few bucks?

Are there any other manufactures that allow lower specs for upgrading later.

    Thanks for your help.

they seem to be very competitively priced by offering large hard drives and memory and they don't charge an arm and a leg for 1GB upgrade...

My guess is that the profit margin on some of those configs is really high, hence you can't downgrade.

Personally I'd rather over-order on the HD than under-order.

IMHO ASUS plays with CPU/GPU that really affects the price and doesn’t play games with HDD/RAM since this stuff is cheap today.
ASUS does not offer customization on-line as DELL does playing on cheap margins, so ASUS installs HDD/RAM to the upper level

Making more ASUS options playing with HDD/RAM will only jeopardize production (more different drives in stock, more labels and so on)

Add screen resolution to that list as these are the 3 most expensive components in a notebook (not including the system board)

how much are you looking to save?? Asus also offers budget laptop. Look at the lower-end model you might find what you need. The one you looked is fully decked out.
