Yeah, i forgot to mention, my native res is 1280x800, which makes a small, but very important difference. The test are run at 1280x800

And d3x, im not sure, im not even sure how to tell..... but im sure to find out, it would require me to open my system back up, and i dont have the tool right now (i had to borrow to put in my ram), im deadly afraid of striping those screws and i dont have have a small enough screw driver to do it safely

Well if you don't feel confident enough, don't stretch it. IT's cool.. I'm sure someone would eventually open it up one way or another out of curiosity.

Yeah that's the default resolution and I'm comparing it only at that resolution.

Yeah, it's close with those numbers, of course a DDR3 would be able to go higher than 475/700 when overclocked. My 560/505 registered 4186 in 3Dmark06 1280x800 resolution.

Not exactly. The right most fan in the TurboEngine directly cools the VGA heatsink which is connected to a separate VGA header and operates at it's own individual rotation speed and temperature settings(by the BIOS). Of course, if the CPU fans runs at full speed, the GPU would be cooler.

D3x, are you using Vista? If so is it 32 bit or 64 bit? Did you get 4186 with cpu overclocked or in standard mode? Also which Forceware driver are you using? Thanks.

Vista 32 bit, with 169.04 forceware drivers running 3Dmark06 @1280x800 . C90S was running in Gaming mode, so 2.93Ghz OC was 564/509 limit, any further had severe artifacts, infact there were minor artifacts while I was running this like one or two occasions(core artifacts though, but I didn't have anyu additional cooling, nor did I have the back panel open), I did however do the core heatpad mod where I used the ones directly from the memory and placed it on the second spreader as I mentioned from an earlier post. If I turn it down to 560/505 I scored 4092. I'm sure if I added some minor tweaks to the heatsink(lapping or better thermal compound application I would probably get it fully stable. I'm actually thinking of squeezing a thin layer of copper in between rather than the thermal pads.

Anyone want to shed some light on this?
Ever since I got my 8600 GT DDR2 replaced, I'm getting a strange problem with overclocking. The temps are never too bad, 80 degrees tops but once it goes above it slightly the card automatically runs half the speed at 277/200 ( which is the low power 3D setting). This usually happens when I'm running 3Dmark, so it screws up my scores entirely and has inhibited my OC results which at this moment at 535/490 at most depending on the ambient temperatures, but absolutely no artifacts or other issues, just sudden drop in clockspeeds and I can't get them back up until I reboot. My previous card never had these heat "throttle" issues as it reached to like 90 degrees, and 565/510 mem.

I'm not familiar with this overclocking business, so the only advice I can give myself, is to make sure that the "test conditions" are the same (same driver version, same BIOS and VBIOS version, same power management apps running in the background).

Interesting, I haven't thought about the notebook BIOS. I've considered the drivers and VBIOS but perhaps roling back a version might do the trick?

I was considering the copper instead of thermal pads, but I see it more as s choke point going from the copper to aluminum back to the copper heatpipes. Donno what do you guys think, until now I've always just thought of holding out until the new sinks become publicly available.
