Thread: G2S-A1 Benchmark and photos

Re: G2S-A1 Benchmark and photos
it will be blurry, If the resolution for your monitor is say 1280x1024, reduce it to 1024x768. Then you will see the blur, and you can decide for yourself. Inside the games you won't notice too much, AA will dip off some and your targeting reticles and logos and things will be big, but it won't be really ugly. Lower than native makes menu screens and Windows itself look blurry and muddy, but in game graphics are not nearly as badly effected.
EDIT: I took a couple of screenies in a game using multiple res's, I realised I don't have any image hosting services, so I can't put them up, but if someone who does would like to have them, you can see.Last edited by AlexOnFyre; 13th June 2007 at 04:16 PM.

Re: G2S-A1 Benchmark and photos
Keeping the aspect ration helps alot as well. scaling down from 1680x1050 to 1440x900 and keeping the 16:10 aspect ratio will look better than scaling down to 1280x1024 (5:4), even though it's a slightly higher resolution.

Re: G2S-A1 Benchmark and photos
I have a question about the G2S.
What kind of a difference will it make if I get it with 3 or 4 GB of RAM instead of the default 2 GB??? I mean will I see any real improvement in performance?
I have seen somewhere comments that actually getting the laptop with 3 GB of RAM could damage the performance - is that true???

Re: G2S-A1 Benchmark and photos
Upgrading RAM is probably the most cost effective way to increase the performance of a laptop. Going from 2-3 will likely almost double your performance (as has been shown with the G1S). 3-4 won't do much, unless you are using a 64-bit OS, which would penalise your performance anyway, since most (if not all current) games have not been properly compiled to run on a 64-bit OS.
I don't understand how upgrading the RAM could ever damage your performance... links?

Re: G2S-A1 Benchmark and photos
Upgrading from 2-4 as said above in 32 bit os will only let you use 3gb. regardless the system benefits in all benchmarks slightly. Personally I dont need more then 2gb on my main puter. I do pretty advanced stuff. Alot of hi def rendering. 2gb with win xp leaves me 500mb to spare at any given time. there is no benfit to getting 4gb vs 2gb unless you have a spcific use. the perfromance gain will not be visible to the naked eye unless you know that your page file can and will reach over 2gb,

Exactly, upgrade RAM seem to double the FPS in actual game play, another benefit is that you don't even need to overclock GPU, I have the test to backup your statement:
G1S
stock driver no overclock:
FEAR DEMO setup:

With 2GB RAM:

now with 3GB of RAM:

The FPS gets double and that's without overclocking.
Now, F3SV-B1 with 8600M GS Video Card no overclock:
3GB of RAM

The 8600M GS with 3GB performs better than 8600M GT with 2GB of RAM.

Re: G2S-A1 Benchmark and photos
Ken - does that seem to imply that if the G1S had 512mb rather than 256mb of VRAM it would be a far better performer? Conventional wisdom seemed to be (as far as I understood it) that 256 v 512mb didn't make that much of a difference - but if we're saying that adding 1gb of system RAM is going to make a big difference, then we can surely assume adding 256mb of VRAM would be significant too.
Next obvious question to me - what is likely to perform better, a 256 mb GDDR3 8600GT (clocked at 700mhz memory), with 3gb system ram, vs a 512mb GDDR2 8600GT (clocked at 400mhz memory), with 3gb system ram?
Petrov.
