Re: Asus N43SL/SN Owners' Lounge
I'm currently on a very slow connection so uploading anything is a pain in the a$$. As for guidance and such, just unscrew everything you can except for the sd card slot module and the one above it. Remember to unplug the power and monitor cables before removing the mobo.
As for the heatsink/fan, remove the fan(power)-cable and unscrew said screws that are visible. Keep a good place for these screws so you don't end up missing anything when assembling everything back together.
I have decided that it's not worth upgrading this laptop, so I'm currently waiting for Asus N46VZ (which is essentially v2 of U46SV) since re-pasting/getting a laptop cooler didn't help at all.
edit: Suddenly about 2 hours ago, the thermal paste finally gave in, so I'm going around 10c cooler now than before which makes a huge difference.

Re: Asus N43SL/SN Owners' Lounge
Are you supposed to unscrew everything on the bottom plate or is the screws below the keyboard required to be opened? Because there's one screw below the keyboard that has the asus warranty sticker

Remove every screw you find. There are 3 on the top of the cd drive when you remove the drive, 4 hidden under the rubber feet and a lot under the keyboard. Remove everything you see, if you encounter too much resistance from any part of the laptop while disassembling, look for more hidden screws. By my count there are about 50 screws, but only 2 different types.

Re: Asus N43SL/SN Owners' Lounge
LOL...
It reminds me of my story. I used to re-paste my TOSHIBA Satellite M300. It had around 40 screws or so just to get into the heatsink and remove it so it could get re-pasted. So re-pasting was done and it worked perfectly (well, to some sort of degree). But then I realized that I was wasting my time doing it...
Since then, I have no intention of doing it again by myself, unless, of course, it's extremely needed.

Re: Asus N43SL/SN Owners' Lounge
Hey, since my Asus N43SL comes with 2x 2Gb RAM I wanted to upgrade the RAM to 6 or 8Gb RAM. Can anyone tell me if the notebook supports DDR3-1600Mhz RAM?
I was considering using that instead of 1333.
I am going to upgrade the RAM and add a Crucial m4 SSD, and then stick with this laptop one more year.

Re: Asus N43SL/SN Owners' Lounge
HM65 supports up to DDR3-1333 only. 1600MHz will be downclocked to 1333MHz and the CL latency will be reduced accordingly as well according to the JEDEC profiles.
I've done it a few times already. Not too difficult once you get the hang of things although it's *very* easy to forget to put a screw back. I must have done that practically everytime I took it apart; fixed everything back only to find one spare screw
Try these drivers?
I'll get around to updating the drivers list also, left it as it was for way too long. Probably by next week, have been super busy with a lot of things

I am doing a ppt to guide people who wants to repaste the GPU/CPU or just disassemble the computer for fun.
It will be done this week for sure!
