Which ELANTECH Driver do you use?
I use 8.0.7.0, but this has no Edge Circular.

Re: Asus N53SV & N53SN SandyBridge Owner Thread
Hi all. I have an Asus N53SN S-1344V (FHD monitor, i7 2630QM, GT 550M, 750GB @ 7200rpm, dvd-rom etc.). I really like the laptop. The only thing i don't like it's the keyboard. Not only because it flexes, i don't look to it while typing to see it flex, but because it's very noisy (the cheap kind of noisy) and also sand-ish feeling (i feel like moisturizing my fingers all the time i use the laptop
).
Also what i don't like about the keyboard it's the fact that there is no space between the numpad and the rest of the keyboard, making it very hard to feel with your fingers the edge between them. And also the arrow keys are very hard to find without looking at the keyboard (mostly because they have the same dimensions as the number keys and the right arrow being part of the numpad). And it's not about getting used to it, as I have more than 2 weeks with it...
So i decided to buy a new keyboard (chiclet and backlit), just ordered this one from ebay: eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
While i'm waiting for it I want to know better how to make the backlit work. I saw the pictures and videos posted by elbolo, but i want it more detailed
And... I saw your post, ASUS787 and if you want to make a better guide I would be grateful, because i kept searching for a good one for at least 6 hours
I don't know how to solder, but I can learn. Tell us all the tools and how you made it (for example, from where you took the wires? I read that simple ethernet wires would work?). How do you know which of the pin from the keyboard is the +5v and which one is the ground? how do you know what pin to solder from the usb? I found some guide for another laptop that used the fan wires, wouldn't it be more easy?
Also about the wi-fi switch, what do you mean by 'you need to bridge two of the three poles on the wifi switch'? where are they located, how do you know which to pick and where/how to bridge them? where to put the wire into the wi-fi switch?
Any detailed response will be grately appreciated, and maybe if you take the time to make it with photos and videos you could actually open a new thread for it. I'm very sure it's very useful, as the keyboard for n53sn is not something that you would desire (I have the original non-chiclet keyboard, the one with the flex issue, which for me it's not the real issue of this keyboard).

Re: Asus N53SV & N53SN SandyBridge Owner Thread
Hi dont use winflash to flash the bios. You can flash it from the bios at start up. Put the update bios file in a directory or folder where you can easily find it. Reboot your computer and enter the bios. You will see an option to flash the bios. Click on it and follow the screen prompts.

Re: Asus N53SV & N53SN SandyBridge Owner Thread
Hi I didnt think to take any photos or video whilst upgrading to backlit unfortunately. Personally if I were you I would get someone capable of soldering. If you damage the D.C inboard it is $140 to replace. Having said that if you are up to the challenge then give it a go!
* The wifi switch is attached to the D.C in board by 3 pins
* You need to bridge with solder the 2 pins of the switch in the off position.
* This will bridge the wifi circuit so that it is on permanently.
* Unsolder the 3rd pin of the switch away from the board carefully.
* Attach the ground side of the backlit keyboard ribbon to this pin
* Insulate the join with heat shrink so that it does not touch the board anywhere. ( critical as a short will destroy your board)
* Attach the +ve side of the keyboard ribbon to the +VE side of the usb port next to the dvd drive( strip back an old usb plug The red wire will indicate the +ve terminal of the port when you plug it in)
* Run the wires and place an inline small wire connector to sit ontop of the dvd drive so that in the future if you need to remove the keyboard you can also unplug the backlit ribbon.
Sorry I have no photo`s to help. Hope this is of help to you. I had to figure this all out myself as you said there is no real detailed guide. I have tried to explain the steps to the best of my knowledge. If you still are unsure please dont hesitate to ask!!

Re: Asus N53SV & N53SN SandyBridge Owner Thread
Thanks for replying. If I was in my own country I would find somebody to solder it for me, but i'm living in Denmark for the next 2 years, so it's hard to find a guy who knows these stuff here and don't pay him a fortune

What do you think about this guys idea? UL30 Backlit Keyboard Mod
Using the power from the sata of the hdd it's kind of brilliant for not requiring soldering on the MB, isn't it?
Or, can't we use the sata of the DVD-rom?
but I think it's much more complicated to put it in the correct pin without tearing apart the enitre notebook..
