Re: ASUS G73SW Owners' Lounge
New Memeber Here.
Picked up G73SW-BST6 from Best Buy over the weekend. I'm not a gamer (play but not enough..) and wanted a 17" screen with new revison i7 chip.
So far so good.
WebCam is kind of crappy and I cant sem to find a place to play with settings. Was using it through skype and my kids 400 laptop has a better cam...
Anyways, I look forward to reading and learning from this forum.
Was the ASUS site down over the weekend?? I tried a ton of times to register this thing but was not working. (their site)Last edited by Liam1234; 21st March 2011 at 01:08 PM. Reason: spelling

Re: ASUS G73SW Owners' Lounge
I ordered from Asus Laptops & Asus Peripherals available to buy direct - Asus Outlet, it's the best/only option for UK orders at the moment it seems.

Re: ASUS G73SW Owners' Lounge
OK, I just answered my own dumb question.
When trying to activate warranty through asus I was getting an error message saying my s/n was not valid (and it was). But today I just noticed they put in red at the bottom...
"These retailers are currently among the companies that do NOT participate in the ASUS 360 Notebook Service Program and Accidental Damage Warranty: Best Buy USA (stores and website), Best Buy Canada (stores and website), OfficeMax (stores and website), Staples USA (stores and website), Costco Wholesale (warehouses only), Microsoft (stores and website)."Last edited by Liam1234; 21st March 2011 at 01:20 PM. Re: ASUS G73SW Owners' Lounge
Well mine just magically appeared as of 1pm at the central UPS site. Very unlikely that it will go out for deliver today, but you never know. I'm keeping my eyes on it but most likely it will come tomorrow morning judging by past experience. At least it's showing up in the system again, I hate watching no updates for 5 days straight!

Re: ASUS G73SW Owners' Lounge
I just did that now, nice tip - can see through task manager that all my cores are keeping themselves busy now. However I thought, from what I've read, that the overclocking button would take it beyond stock speeds. Or is that just made redundant in the new processors? It's slightly annoying having a button that doesn't have a specific function.

Re: ASUS G73SW Owners' Lounge
Good deal ! You've bypassed the Turbo button by setting it to run at 2.9GHz all the time instead of the 2.0GHz to 2.9GHz that the power management feature was using . The overclocking ( Turbo ? ) button now does nothing . I hope I've gotten that right . I'm a newbie with Windows 7 and Asus settings , my last notebook being a Dell 9300 with Windows XP SP3.

Re: ASUS G73SW Owners' Lounge
would be nice to get confirmation from another knowledgable person on this matter.
now, however, the problems start rolling in
.
I used Asus Utility and Bloatware Guide to trim all the rubbish out of the C drive. A restart later and my keyboard lights aren't working - they come on briefly as the system is started, but then they're gone - Fn+F4 and the top left lights button don't aid the matter either. Furthermore, when Windows loads up I get 2 messages.
One is from Power4Gear saying "This program can only be executed on the ASUS computer.", while the P4G Windows gadget is greyed out.
The other is entitled "ATK0100 request" and says "You have to install ATK0100 driver".
Funny thing is I specifically didn't uninstall anything to do with ATK, only things that the bloatware guide above advised to get rid of.

Re: ASUS G73SW Owners' Lounge
I'm sorry to hear that . I ordered mine with a clean install of Win 7 so that I wouldn't run into those particular listed issues . I guess you could reinstall the last app ( along with Power 4 Gear ) that you uninstalled before rebooting ( did you reboot after each uninstall , it's a pain to do it but it's easier to trouble shoot ) . I know that I remember reading about the light issue but I don't remember where .

Re: ASUS G73SW Owners' Lounge
Does anyone notice how the sound turns off after a few seconds of playing something? Or even you can notice a small crackle right before a sound plays, like it's turning on again.
It's a pretty faint crackle/pop, but I can mainly hear it with my in-ear headphones so it may not even be that loud with regular headphones or its even more impossible with speakers.Asus G73SW-XA1:i7 2630QM, 8GB DDR3 1333MHz, Nvidia GTX460M, Samsung 470 128GB SSD + 750gb(7200RPM), 17.3" 1080p, Intel 6200G73/53SW Owners - CPU Throttling to 798mhz and how to fix it

Re: ASUS G73SW Owners' Lounge
After a bit of tinkering I've got it solved. Ended up being as simple as going to the asus support site and downloading the ATK package for an uninstall/reinstall. Ideally without downloading the 32bit one by accident.. what a wally.
Strange that that particular driver governs whether Power4Gear is able to run, but quite a relief that I could kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
