Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
I don't recall any users on this thread you changed their display panel.

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
Yes, there are versions of the N73 with FULL HD displays. But you were asking if anyone here had swapped a 1600x900 display for 1920x1080 panel. I was just saying that I don't know of anyone here who has done that, not offering an opinion on whether it can be done. It probably can be done, though I would research and get confirmation of that before spending any money on a new panel.

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
I have one with Full HD display. I think I should warn you that it may not be as clear cut an improvement as you may think. If you run it in normal dpi mode fonts are really small and hard to read. You can then choose a big font setting instead. Then the screen real estate gets hurt a bit and some programs may look weird. I would also question weither you can actually notice any difference when watching video on it.
I think I was the first one to actually get the thing disassembled (look back a few pages). So it seems to follow that noone has succesfully swapped the panel, since disassembling it is a prerequisite.

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
I've disassembled mine a few times.

I agree about FULL HD displays on laptops. Even with 17.3" of real estate, you're really pushing the practical limits of object sizing on a computer screen. The clarity is nice, but as you say, some of those tiny fonts can be awfully hard to read. And once you start selectively re-sizing some display objects (i.e., fonts), the results can start to look weird.
I have a 1600x900 display on my N73, and a 1920x1080 display on a G74. The G74 has better color reproduction and viewing angles, but for the day-to-day reading & writing I do on my computers, I find the N73 display more comfortable to use.

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
Thanks guys,
I appreciate the input and I will just stay with what I have now. It was just something I wanted to do if I had time, and if it was a straight forward swap, but if text will suffer I'm not going to bother. Thanks again!

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
I haven't kept up with developments here since BrodyBoy helped me with a clean Windows install and got my machine up and whizzing along for me
But I was wondering of there has been any news on the USB 3.0 front. Have any drivers been released making the 3.0 usable or shall I simply consider it a no-go forever?
Also, could anyone recommend a program that will return the BluRay capability to this machine? That went the way of all flesh with the clean Windows install.
Thanks, everyone! Other than my two questions, I'm happy to say that my machine is humming along just fine!

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
Hey, good to see you around again! Glad to hear it's still running smoothly.

Honestly, I so seldom do big transfers to/from an external drive on my N73 anymore, that I'd kind of forgotten about the USB issue. (In my case, it worked fine unless left unattended too long.) I have another Asus laptop now that uses a different Fresco driver, with no issues whatsoever I think I'll do a test install in the N73 and see how that one performs. If it works out okay, I'll post the link.
As for BD playback, I have a basic Sonic Cineplayer that Asus puts on several of their notebooks. I don't have it installed right now because I don't use the N73 for BDs, but give it a try....I think it'll do the trick.

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
Thanks, BrodyBoy! I'll download that program and give it a try.
Please do let me know how the other Fresco driver works. Otherwise I guess I'll need to figure out how to just turn the USB 3.0 into a 2.0 and just be done with it.
Thanks so much!
