Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
Darn. Because I posted the question in the N43SL/SN Owners' Lounge, and the person who started it conveniently "forgot" about the question.

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
HAHA! I found it! Well, it's not very clear, but on one of the posts, quite old, a user said roughly about 30x10.7cm. Excellent, I think that should work perfectly well then. Problem solved!
Why doesn't Cary post on this thread anymore?Last edited by DragonglassTM; 23rd September 2011 at 02:57 PM.

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
Do you need a new keyboard? Or are you just looking to try something different?
Boy, the more I've use the G74, the more I appreciate its keyboard layout. On mine, I still have a tendency to hit CAPS-LOCK unintentionally, but not on that one. And I still get annoyed with the N73's cheap feel. Keyboards are always a huge thing for me, and I knew I was comprising a little with the N73 (because it seemed to be the best of what was available at the time). I don't think I'll do that again.

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
nah, was helping out my sister because she, for some reason, loves the flat feel of the keyboards that the N3 series uses. She has a N82, and since the N43 and it are both 14 inch, I was wondering if they were the same size and if I could swap the keyboards.
I actually quite like the N73 keyboard, but that's my personal opinion. It's just a bit slippery sometimes, but add on a keyboard protector and it's smooth as silk. For me.
How's the touchpad problem going on with the G74? You know, you should start a G74 Owners' Lounge.

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
Hey, I thought of something. if I buy El Wire, and cut off the ends and solder it onto a USB connector, then plug it into a USB port, will it light up? Or is it too weak? And what about USB 3.0? I am currently just looking for some opinions and advice. cause I sure as heck don't want to lug around, however small, a transformer with my laptop. Especially if it's connected to the keyboard.

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
We'll be sending it back soon, hoping to replace it with one that doesn't have the problem. If there was any sign that anybody actually has a clue about what causes it (and therefore has a hope of finally fixing it), I'd probably just keep this one and fix it. But I don't believe there's any real explanation or fix yet.
There is a G74SX Owners' Lounge...it's been around awhile.
(In fact, that's where I get hope that this isn't a pervasive problem.....most there don't seem aware of it.)
This is essentially what deekaysk did....what I described as powering from one of the USB ports. As I said, it seemed like a less than satisfactory setup.

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
I wish you the best of luck on getting a problem free G74 when you do send it in. Please keep us (me, lol) posted!
Oh, I didn't know that. Well, it just seems like those people were really lucky eh?
Well, I just read deekaysk thread, he bought a N71jq keyboard, did some soldering, tape, and put it on. And he never updated it anyways. My idea is to get El Wire, thread it under the keyboard, and whenever I need it, plug it into the USB port and when I don't need it, I would take off the plastic USB port holder on my Sony Handycam and stick it right next to the speakers. Much neater. I just need to know whether the USB ports can power the El Wire. And whether the El Wire is thin enough... Which I'm beginning to doubt.

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
Right, I just borrowed a piece of El Wire from my friend, it barely fits underneath the keys and when I manage to squeeze it in, I can't type.
Ah well. I know the keys well enough that I don't need the light, the light is a cosmetic thing, after all.

Re: Asus N73JQ Owners' Lounge
Does anyone use Speedfan? Cause I was just using it, to verify my temps, and Speedfan insists that my CPU is -60C.... even after reinstalling it. And installing an old version. And if the CPU has it's own monitoring system, why do software translate it so badly?
