Makee thy guide, oh great one! lol
We used to say that if you gave a million monkeys typewriters, that they would eventually recreate the works of Shakespeare.... With the invention of the internet, we sadly now know that this is utter BS!

Complete Guide for overclock your Asus G73JW etc.

    Basic information:
Well, You've probably all heard people say that you should not overclock a notebook? It is true that such a small machine often cant handle higher temperatures than what it is made for. But in this case as the Asus G-Series comes with a big heavy fans who can handle most things. So everything is about dealing with the cooling

Lets get started! Im using ASUS G73JW-TZ130V Modell (Swedish Version)

    - Intel Core i7-740QM
    - 6GB RAM DDR3
    - 500 GB
    - NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 460M m
    - 17.3 LED Full-HD 1920x1080 16:9 widescreen

    Essential Tools:
    MSI Afterburner
SetFSB (You need to donate 500Y about 6dollars to use this tool, read a little bit down)
    3DMark06

    Optional Tools:
    GPU-Z
    CPU-Z
    Fraps

    MSI Afterburner
    - A tool which helping you to overclock your Graphic card and got tools such as tempeture and status. Easy for beginners and easy to use.

    SetFSB
    - Nowadays you can not go into the bios and change the information that you did before to overclock. Thats why SetFSB going to help you. In this program you can easily adjust your FSB (front side bus), If you change the order it will increase the speed out of the processor. The disadvantage is that it costs, about $ 6, go to their page and donate, after the donation, you will receive email with your activation key, it's fast and easy and they give you simple instructions. SetFSB_HomePage

    CPU-Z
    - CPU-Z is a freeware that gathers information on some of the main devices of your system.

    GPU-Z
    - GPU-Z is a lightweight utility designed to give you all information about your video card and GPU.

    3DMark06
    - Earlier benchmark program that is free.

    Fraps
-If you are really picky when it comes fps so you should this! Simple program that shows what your current FPS is in game etc.

There is alot more software but this is just the basic!

ATTENTION! Im using TwinTurbo mode and Turboboost. Remove the battery and use the plug in AC. That is the best performance for the Asus!

Lets begin, To make it easy to see the different, I will use 3Dmark06! Here is the Results!
    BEFORE OVERCLOCK!

    1. Overclock the GPU!
BEFORE STARTING ALWAYS DOWNLOAD THE LATEST GPU DRIVERS IN THIS CASE NVIDIA 260.99!
    Install and Start MSI Afterburner

This is the original settings for most of the people. Let the Core clock and Shader clock be linked with each other. Now, start to clock and hit Apply when you done!
The best settings for my Asus was 800/1600/1480. Remember that is for me! That doesnt mean that every Asus can reach that. You need to start low and go step and step untill it works!

Tempeture after overclock, idle about 50 Celcius, in game and load 60-80. I would say everything below 90 is ok!

    The Different!

    Before!

After! You can see some different!

    Done here lets move on!

    2. Overclock the CPU!
Install and start SetFSB (require donate to get the activation key)

    1. Choose the G73JH clock generator, it is the same as the JW version. And click Get FSB.
    2. Start to drag your FSB! I reached 175, try to go steg and step, I would recommend "5" step. If your pc freeze during the settings, dont go nutz, its just a sign that it is to much. Start the computer again and try again.

    The Different!

    Before!

After! See the different of the Bus speed

What is FSB? Front Side Bus
    - The clock generator determines the frequency (speed) at which the CPU communicates with the other components in your computer. The product of FSBn multiplied by the multiple offers on the CPU clock speed will efficiently work with. For example (3291.43 MHz (156.73 * 21).

    You are done!

The CPU and GPU is now overclocked on a stable level, now to the different!
I ran 3Dmark with exactly same settings like before and here is the results!

    Before!

Result: You can already see that its a big different between points! Almost 2000 Points! CPU and GPU score has increased that result the Fps average has getting bigger.

I can feel a big different in game! Im gaining more FPS and everything is floating more smoothly than before!

    After Words!
    - For starters, I know that all countries have different components in their Asus computers, for example, USA has a bit more Ram memory etc. So the results I get may not be the same with you, perhaps you can get a better result and maybe even worse. I highly recommend to buy an laptop cooler, it will help you to clock even higher on a stable tempeture level.

Just post if you need help with something! I will come with tutorials with further overclock so stay update here!

Best Regards and good luck i7.Asus !

    Merry Chistmas!

EDIT: To make it more interesting, Please Share your 3Dmark results and dont forgot to mention your PC components!

    UPDATE 12/12-10

Here is some new updates! I have been able to squeeze out 3,5Ghz on a stable level of my i7!

    CPU-Z Validator 3.1

Best Regards and good luck i7.Asus !

    UPDATE 14/12-10

Many have already seen the new Drivers that have coming out for the Nvidia cards (265.66) Many wonders if it was any difference when it comes to performances, so I made a test here!

I ran 2 times just to be sure!
NOTE IM RUNNING THE OVERCLOCK SETTING AS I MENTION IN THE BEGINNING OF THIS GUIDE!

    Latest/Old Result with 260.99!

    Test Run 1 265.66!

    Test Run 2 265.66!

    Summary
It actaully gaved me some more FPS and it increased the FPS average a little bit in some parts. If we dont count with the CPU score, it is almost 500 points different, so I can confirm that this drivers actaully performance better. But Im still testing and more updates to come!

Best Regards and good luck i7.Asus !
