Asus G73JH-B1 Owners Lounge
I'm officially openning the Asus G73JH-B1 owners lounge.
Below is my Review
Specifications
Intel Core i7-740qm, 1.73-2.93GHz
ATI Mobility Raedon HD 5870
1920X1080 Full HD Screen
8GB Kingston DDR3-1333MHz RAM
128GB C300 SSD + 500GB Momentus XT
Blue Ray Player
IC Diamond 24 Thermal Compound.
First Impressions
This is a big notebook. When closed, looks huge. However , Carrying it is quite easy. It feels just as light as my Dv5t which weighed 2.6kgs.
Build Quality wise , its excellent. Its very rigid and strong. I'm very impressed with what i've got.
I thought that the design would be atrocious however it nice and you can take it to school and work. I would say its way better than the colourful MSI GX660R design.
As far how the ports are arranged , it different for me...what was on the left of my Dv5t is on the right vice versa.. Optical drive is on left.
The Keyboard is quite different for me as its the first time i've used a chiclet one. Backlighting is excellent and in the dark , i can see the keys very well.
Screen is excellent.. Viewing angles are better than my Dv5t. Its quite bright. Very happy with it

Temperatures
Idle temps are in high 40s to low 50s C. Feels Cooler than my Dv5t on idle although temps are slightly higher for G73. Fans are extremely silent. Even under heavy CPU load in WEI , fans were quiet silent. More Temperatures with Benchmarks.
Benchmarks
3D Mark Vantage was done with 10.8. Got P8295 stock and P8307 with twin turbo which really doesn't help.

Temps hit 74C for CPU and about 79C for GPU.. Luckily i have got an excellent repaste.
Furmark with Extreme Burning Mode+ MSAA X8 leveled at 87C after 5mins. I don't want to burn out my Thermal paste. Suprisingly , this is quite a low temperature for me. Fans hardly made as much noise as my DV5t. My only concern was the right vent heated up much more than the left. I'll do another run a few days later when my thermal paste has settled.Last edited by sean473; 15th September 2010 at 07:33 PM.

Re: Asus G73JH-B1 Owners Lounge
Gaming Performance
First up , i played Battlefield BC2. Just finished the single player campaign. Basically , i was playing at 1920X1080 , DX11 , MSAA X4 , AA X 8 and HBAO off. I got 30FPS+ usually and dropped to 28 sometimes. The details were awesome and really unbelievable. Some Screenshots are below.

As u can see above , details were excellent. Sorry about the FPS counter not showing.. I'm suprisied since i used FRAPS. Temperature wise , the CPU nver went beyond 75C which is really impressive and GPU hit 80C.. just the mem though.
Next Game which i am playing currently is Tom Clacny's HAWX. I'm playing on DX10 and the whole game maxed off. The below picture is with VSync off and i got 70fps+ all the time. More Pictures will be up later with VSync on. I got 56fps constant. These are really high fps for me especially considering every detail is on max. I can't wait for HAWK 2.. might be a wipeout again.

You have to be impressed with the 5870M.. The GTX460M has to be overclocked heavily to reach such performance while this is on stock. It just shows how inferior NVIDIA's products are even after many more months of developement. More gaming pictures soon as i play more games.Last edited by sean473; 19th September 2010 at 08:26 PM.

Re: Asus G73JH-B1 Owners Lounge
Wouldn't it be an absolute pain for A and R series owners if the B1 did actually come with a GPU that worked correctly, and Asus then left it like that?
Anyway, good luck with your G73 Sean473.

Re: Asus G73JH-B1 Owners Lounge
Interested in your review. I'm in the market for one of these (or something similar). Do you think the slightly upgraded processor will matter at all?
