Re: Asus G51Jx Owners Lounge
I should have known you'd ask that question, as you DO ask the questions, Hah-Hah! Sure, I gave a slight primer in overclocking the GPU a couple pages back if you were to simply read there...you'll find the tips that I actually use myself when I am in unfamiliar territory, or working with a video card I've never done before, something new, you know?
It explains simply that you start small, and test in OCCT v3.1 first, to make certain that there are no errors going on with your VRAM itself, then RESTART the computer for a fresh XML and SIM loading in ROM, ie so there's no latencies left over from the OCCT testing, and they try your overclocking with 3DMark06, rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat etc etc.
It's pretty basic stuff, and you'll pick it up instantly, you're a sharp guy who's been around the block a couple times, so I'm not giving you something earth shattering and all brand new, just repeating the logical, easy, first steps we all take when overclocking something in the video end of computing, just the basics...read it, you'll get it easy and then you can go about clocking your video card as it need to be clocked...they are all different, every so slightly, which is why I offered the guide in the 1st place!
We like to give people the basics first and then when you encounter anything unusual or special, ask about that too, and then we'll try to help with your specific questions/needs, one by one, pretty much like student/teacher relationships, nothng much different really.
Anyway, read a couple pages back and there's your answer about the GTS 360M and any other video card, for that matter...good luck, and have fun, and take it easy, slow and CONSERVATIVE before you damage something!
Later on ask me some specifics and I'll help you out there, too...

Re: Asus G51Jx Owners Lounge
I figured either your video card or oneb1ts' would challenge my record setting marks (they were there to be broken for at least a couple hours anyway! Hah-Hah!) in 3DMark06, as we're all in the same boat with the same overclocking talents basically, we understand the basics and can eeeek out the last couple of Mhz and points, if possible, and it is amazing what can be possible given a good video card with some decent atmospheric help!
You know I almost turned on the AC here in my studio, just for the studio mind you where I could get the temps down into the low 70's/high 60's just to try and get that 11K mark down finally, but nope, I Pasadena'd the whole deal, because I figure if I cannot break 11K legitimately, without any artificial aids then it's not my game to break!
I really feel like somebody will eventually get it together with a setting and this card/this computer and break the 11K mark in 3DMark06, it's just a matter of when, and how, and the luck of a run really. I mean I was there with my first run's video card scores, it's just that the CPU crappered out somehow, I mean it was off by some 50-60 points and that would have made 11K with that run (10,942 best run for me plus 60 points and I'm there!).
But nah, I didn't want to damage my system, didn't really want to hurt this beautifully virgin card and new parts such as they are, so I didn't go any farther with overclocking and left it where it stood, until you came along and upped the ante now!
It's not that I don't appreciate the challenge from you, because I do honestly I do! It's simply that you're such a young whippersnapper at just 16 years old, that you should be better at this craft than I am by natural means, ya know? So I really did expect either you or oneb1t to crack 11K before I did, by putting up those marks I did last night...but you didn't do it! Dang! Damn! That is so close, too, even closer than my attempt and failure to break the 11K mark, jeez Louise that is close!!!
As for my overclocking settings giving a "negative effect" no, it's not like that at all...it's simply a matter of our cards VRAM being ever so slightly different, and they all are-- you do know that right? These cards are all unique and specially put together one by one, assembly by assembly, and there are no two card alike any more than there are any two CPU's alike!
So my card likes to be tweaked high and hard, while yours responds to a slightly lower Mhz prompting, that is all the difference is, it's the level of response each card is getting that is all!
My card responded with a higher score each time that I went higher in the Mhz departments, right up until I got a driver crash at 647/1640 /2097 Clocks, and it WAS the Shaders I was working with to get the extra points, trust me it was, everything else was MAXXED OUT with my card, there ain't no more Mhz left at 647 Core Clock and 2097 Memory Clock settings, not with my card, because that's ALL there is there...any deviation there and I'll get a driver crash instantly, no BSOD's and no system crashes nothing like that, just a driver crash and recovery, no more and no less.
So I had nowhere else to go! And that's why I quit...if the dang CPU score would have been regular I WAS OVER 11K but it wasn't, somehow it was off those 50-60 points that run, of all runs to be "off" on it picked that one to be low, and I have no idea why because I am also using Extreme Turbo and Throttling Disabled with Throttlestop, which works a treat of course!
So I dunno, it's all going to have to be *there* for either one of us to get over the 11K mark, and even then it's going to be JUST over it, not a smidge higher, and that will be it, somebody is gonna do it one of these days, it just depends on the lucky invariables with our given computers because our settings are all MAXXED OUT, all around, totally, there's no where else to "adjust", at least on mine there is not!
So if you do it, well and good, and if I do it, or oneb1t does it, well and good, but it's time that somebody did it because statistically it's just simply in the cards for it to happen, one of us will get it done!
Just a matter of lucky circumstance, and all cylinders firing 100% on a given run and it will happen, just watch, it will and then the competition to break 11K will be done with, over and done, gone, and then there will be something else to match our computers up against I guess...I dunno, what would that be, do you think?
Good luck, and may the force be with one, or both of us!

@r4di4ti0n, maybe you can try pressing Alt+Enter.
@rexrzer727, competing for the highest score is such a fun thing to do. However, bad news. 633/1610/2100 results in a driver crash after 30 seconds. Maybe I should up the other frequencies. Maybe 632/1625(Someone tried this a while back)/2110(maybe?).Last edited by ALLurGroceries; 24th October 2010 at 10:13 PM. Re: Asus G51Jx Owners Lounge
Got others language installed huh? you were pressing the hotkey for input language, like shift + ctrl or shift + whatever lol, happens alot when you play a fps games haha. (I'm a victim XD.)
Go to control panel > region and language > keyboards and languages > change keyboard > advanced key settings and disable all all the key sequence, or change it to something els if you actually use the hot keys.
