I hope this is not off-topic. In the past I've had very good experiences with Asus laptops, but this is frustrating me.
Setup:
- new laptop came with W7 Home Premium, I formated and installed W7 Enterprise x64. It came with a Portuguese language keyboard and w7 installation, which I replaced with an english install on a portuguese keyboard, as I did several times before with other laptops.
Problem 1:
Left Control + (Left) Alt + Del doesn't work. However. Right Control + (Left) Alt + Del Works. If I log in and try out the left control key, for example to copy and paste text, it works fine.
Problem 2:
The @ key. This is usually done, in the portuguese keyboard, by typing AltGr+2, but nothing happens when I do it. The 2 works fine, the shift+2 works fine (yelding "), but AltGr+2 doesnt type the @. So the 2 key is working.
I used the SharpKeys tool to remap the menu key (between AltGr and RIght Control) to 2, and now if I type AltGr+Menu Key, I get a @. So the AltGr key is working.
Also: if I type AltGr+5 it works and yelds €. AltGr+3 (pound sign) and AltGr+4 (paragraph sign) also don't work.
Do you have any idea as to why this might be happening (any of the two issues)? I think I installed all the drivers in the Asus site, and quick-fixed it by mapping the menu key, but I have no idea what to do next so solve this.
I also have all the windows updates installed.

I should get you helping with andLinux. I am going to rewrite the communication sockets between Windows and Linux in Java. Or, I may do the Linux side in Java and the Windows side in C#. Since most C people hate Java, most of the help offers I get are C enthusiasts. I need some Java help. Do you know Java or is it that your application uses a Java app?

Hi,
I've found a way to reduce the whining noise coming from my n61. I hope this helps someone. I went into windows 7 power options, not the power4gear one, you can access it by clicking on the battery icon and selecting more power options. From there, go to additional power plans and select the default balanced plan. I think this plan changes the power management of the 720qm so it reduces the whining noise. I hope this helps!

I work in Java all day long, primarily doing web development. I just happen to get luck and the Mario AI stuff was implemented in Java ( http://marioai.org ). Most of the coding I do for school is in C/C++.
I'm definitely available for questions until this semester ends in mid May. After that I'll have enough time to get back to hobby programming and can write some code.Apple 13" MBP i5 | 4GB DDR3 1333 | 320GB 5400 RPM

Re: * Asus N61JQ Owners Lounge *
Hey guys it's been a while but I've been super busy with school lately, haven't really had time to post. Should be doing work now but I've had enough.

Anyway thanks Greg for getting in touch and wondering how I've been doing with my N61. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. My main concern was the low resolution, and I must say it hasn't bothered me one bit and I can't say there was really a time where I missed the extra pixels.
Unfortunately, I haven't really had much time to game on it since I first got it, but what I have thrown at it it's handled perfectly. I played Empire: Total War for a while on it and it ran everything at high settings with no real problem with heat. I was pretty happy about that.
Another thing that I love about it is the Wireless-N. It's not like I was unsure about the speed of the technology or anything but I just got a new router and when I'm close to it it gets very near the same speeds I get with a wired connection.
I haven't looked back since getting this and I don't see it happening. I hope everybody else is having as much luck with theirs as I am with mine!
Btw, nice job on the front page Greg. I remember last time I visited there was some work to be done but that's a great source for newcomers. Wish it was there when I was researching it.

Re: * Asus N61JQ Owners Lounge *
If its one thing about this laptop I love is that I no longer hear the CPU whine like I did in my previous core 2 duo laptop. However, thank you for the solutions if ever needed. I normally keep and run my laptop on the balanced profile, both AC and battery. I find it gives me ample power and battery to suit my needs.
Speaking of which, has anyone tried undervolting this processor as yet?Asus N61JQ-A1
