AU optronics does the screens in those Planar LCDs they tend to be pretty fast but often times overbright.

If you are referring to a Gateway if it is using the same chassis as the P-6860FX then I would take a pass, the cooling design is horrible on that chassis, no room under where the fans are to get enough airflow, I had to prop mine up 2" in the back to keep the unit from locking up, and I had the same problem with the model before, and a friend of mine has the model after and same issue on his.

I have had no heat issues with the G72GX

From my experience, they are wrong. I just upgraded from a P-7805u (the 79xx uses the same exact chassis) and it got a LOT hotter than my Asus G72GX. Even under normal use my Gateway's touchpad and palmrest areas were warm to the touch.

The Gateway got much warmer, and to game with it I always had it on my Cryo NZXT. My Asus can game for hours straight without my cooler and it never gets warm to the touch at all, and the CPU/GPU operating temps are well within normal limits.

Also, I think the build quality and design features of the G72GX are far above the Gateway line (I absolutely loved my 7805u until I got my Asus). They are still still using the same chassis as the P-68xx... The Asus really is a better laptop all around.

Here's a chart I made. These are overclocked speeds: CPU 2.9Ghz / GPU 550/950/1375 (instead of 500/800/1250). I only use these settings when I'm on my NZXT, but the regular temps are listed also.
/agree for sure

I only gained about 700 points on 3DM06 its only worth it if you have something thats unplayable and it then becomes playable afterward (ie 24fps or higher)

If you have a game that dips below 24FPS (standard tv viewing frames) then maybe its good to oc back to stock. clocks. Mileage may vary.

That depends on the Game, if the game supports multi-core cpus then the quad may provide better performance but to be honest I think a Core duo 2.53Ghz and a quad 2.0 may be too close in performance for most games. Other apps like productivity, etc may be a different story.

Can anybody direct me how to find the bracket for the second hard drive? My GPU on my aspire 7720 went out, so I'd like to transfer that hard drive over to this laptop. How do I check for compatibility between that hard drive and this computer? Thanks.

find the asus estore for the bracket. or the easiest thing to do is just a a cheapie usb external hard drive base for your hard drive. i've no idea what an aspire 7720, so just make sure you know whether its pata or sata...pata has all those individual pins, while sata does not

I haven't noticed that. Where is your brightness set on the screen?
