Hello, I have a W90Vp. At first it was fine and I never even bothered fiddling with the video cards, I'm not really an overclocker or anything. Then all of a sudden I started getting this grey screen of death and checkerboxes. I tried to find answers(I also tried checking this thread and searching the forums but had difficulty in discerning if a definite fix was found/shared with others) and ended up trying ViciousXUSMC's Limit Breaker guide to flash the bios.

Everything worked fine on that but I still rarely get the grey screen of death. It always seems to be on particular websites, and only in browsers ie. Firefox, IE, Opera.

I was just wondering if anyone knew of a surefire way to fix this? Has anybody experienced these crashes using b4lu's method? Have any people who have RMA'd their computers eventually started seeing the GSOD over again?

i'm sorry if the answer is posted somewhere in this thread already, although if it is I would much appreciate a link to that particular page out of this mind-boggling 1000+ page thread. I see one page back gaffahead recommended that running Milkdrop in Winamp as a fix but that seems very... kludgy. Although I guess any fix is a good fix. Also I don't mind reinstalling Windows Vista or anything like that.

When you RMA with Asus do they expect you to leave your HDD in the machine? I'm a little paranoid about my hard drive data.

Again I apologize if I'm just asking questions that may have been answered already in the past but trying to browse the volumes of pages that is this thread has caused my brain to shut down. You can just flame me until I shut up and go away.

I've sent in my machine for RMA twice. I still get the grey screen and sometimes lines... sometimes it's blue lines. I did the b4lu fix and I still can't pass the Passmark 2D test and it still exhibits the intermittent line problem.

I'd say there isn't a fix for the issue yet. Last time around they supposedly replaced my motherboard and video cards. Go figure.

Im starting to think they never got truely fixed cards, or enough of them to fix all the machines they had coming in. They probably just swapped less affected cards into the later RMAs. I know this machine has been in for an RMA before i bought it, It doesn't greyline much to this day but on occasion it will get me.

Sorry if I am taking us a bit off current topic...

What do people use for an external display with their W90? I am looking for 24"-26" 1920x1080 display. Any suggestions?

I ran across the ASUS VW246H on Newegg (link below) and it sure seems to be a great deal.

At costco in canada there a few nice well priced 40inch 1080p sets. Not sure if you want to go that large but check out costcos site.

Ive also heard good things about the 'hanns' displays. think they are 28"

Thanks for the info. I see that the LED's are now starting to come out and if they are just around the corner maybe I should wait for that.

OLED's are sexy. If you can wait I'd recommend it Have an Asus OLED notebook at work, screen looks much more vivid over the w90.

Hey all, I am thinking of selling my x2. Not for any problem I have with it, but because I never use it. I thought I would game more on it, and I fiind I don't have time and I'd rather have the money to pay for other things at the moment. I posted in the marketplace, but if I can't get at least 1800-1900 I will probably try ebay and see how it goes. Anyway, if anyone is interested, send me a pm.

Goodluck with the sale, there seems to be such a stigma around this notebook even though the issues are easily worked around. 1700-1800 is doable with the right buyer id imagine.

Yes, there are work arounds, also called hacks. My point is you shouldent need to hack it to make it work. It should work comming from ASUS, and the stigma is well deserved.

But yea, good luck selling it
