No im doing the same, I wont get everything from newegg tho.

I got my hdd from futurepowerpc the 250gb western digital scorpio for 190$, the cpu im waiting till next month when the price cuts come thru. The ram I'll snag from our hot ram deals thread, 4gb for like 180$ but I have not decided if I want 4gb or just 2 yet and thus why im holding off on that, and also hopeing sombody tries to put 4gb of ram in here and see if it works with a x64 based operating system.

What price cuts? Next month only quad cores will get a price cut up to 50% if thats what your talking about otherwise the c2d conroes will get a price cut around September.

Oh its only the quad? I was under the impression its across the board to compete with AMD's STARS cpu's.

    Edit: heres the chart

    http://www.vr-zone.com/index.php?i=4976

No price cuts per say.... I guess I was thinking about the new cpus. Im still in debate wether to get the quad core and overclock it for my desktop or get something like a 3ghz stock 4nm with a 1333mhz fsb dual core for the same price. Thats like the ultimate performance chip for sombody that doesnt want to overclock, never before has somthing that strong been so cheap. The 45nm cpu's are showing a good boost in performance vs the older current C2D at the same clock speed aswell. I can only imagine the overclocking limits on these things...

Guess I'll have to sit back and wait for some enthusiast to overclock these and pick one then. I wish the C90 was bearlake then it could use one of the new cpu's that would have been a smart move I think, esp for a "upgradable" notebook.

Just curious, is there a proper way to recharge a battery? I hear it is best to let it run fully out, and then let it fully charge. Because this won't have much battery life, I want to make the best of it.

older nicad batteries you want to let drain and then charge full every time. you don't want to do this with lithium ion

what you want to do is charge it to full, then let it drain to full, just once. After that keep it topped off, don't let ti die again. You might want to drain the battery all the way down maybe twice a month, because after a while it becomes more difficult for the laptop to know when the battery is low or not. I forgot the specifics as to why this is, there's some nice articles out on the web if you google it.

Ok, that is what I thought actually. But I did look around and I didn't see something aobut discharging it completely, just once. So maybe that is not necessary? --I remember someone else saying this to me once though as well.

How do you discharge it fully without allowing windows to shut it down? open the BIOS?

    Not sure... But I wonder...
I like the Asus C90S and all, but I think I might wait for the C80 or the C70. I'm waiting for high end GeForce 8000s or beginning of GeForce 9000s, along with quad core cpus. Unless they don't come out for a while. Also- inspite of Vista, it's got some bugs still needed to be settled, so a wait on that might be smart. What do you all think?

Waiting as long as you can to buy a laptop is always the best course of action. You wait until it is imperative to buy, or until you find a deal you can't pass up. Sometimes, though, you find a computer that is just...the one...and you have to get it, then you do

Its up to you, you can wait forever, as things will always keep getting better.

You wont see a quad core or a 8800 card in a small notebook anytime soon tho I dont think, just too much heat to deal with.

But you may very well see them in a high end 17" notebook.

So its a matter of needs, if you need it now then get it now. If you dont... then you can wait. The c80 isnt exactly close tho its not even on the offical release schedule yet.

I know ill be happy with the c90 it can play any current game with no issues and should last into the future for a good bit. As its dying out there may very well be a better video card to upgrade to and you can get more life out of it, but MXMII is pretty limiting.

Vista is not an excuse tho, as the c90 doesnt come with an OS unless you buy one for it so you can put XP on there if you want, plus vista itself is mostly bug free and has great driver support now, even x64 is pretty much compatible with anything you toss at it aslong as your not trying to use old hardware/software with it.
