    Default Asus G75 680M upgrade

Would this upgrade be possible, as the 660M model has a removable GPU, so would a) the 680M be an option and b) would someone be able to make a BIOS update for it?

Unlikely. iirc the last gen ASUS g53/g73/g74 had graphics modules with connectors that physically looked like MXM, but were electronically different.

I suspect ASUS did the same thing for the G75. So unless ASUS releases a model with a 680m (note that they never released a 580m version last gen), an upgrade would probably be impossible.

Its not even that good with the G75. They soldered the chip into the mainboard itself so you're SOL

    No they didn't.

The problem is that the 680m and 7970m will probably be too tall and of course the heatsink will have to be rebuilt. But the 7970m at least will probably work electrically, and you can always shave off a bunch of plastic in the chassis to get it to lay flat.

Helps if there is enough physical room lol.

Also the mounting holes for the heatsink are totally different.

This has moved from a hobby to a serious technical undertaking.
