    Default Ssd + Hdd

Hello everyone. around 2 months ago I bought an SSD (my second one because the first one occasionally would not be recognized in bios or anywhere else). This new one works fine; I installed the os onto the ssd and I use the other drive for big programs and games and it worked perfectly up until now. Now when I boot up sometimes the second drive(HDD) is not recognized, and when it is, i keep getting a device not connected error when I try to run steam or plat my music. Any way to fix this??

Hi @Kung Lao - Try using Windows System Restore to restore your system to a time before this issue occurred.

Otherwise - what Errors and Warnings are you getting in the Windows System and Application Event Logs?

You could also run a CHKDSK /F /R on the partitions of the HDD to confirm the file system is sound and there are no bad blocks.

You could also attempt to reseat the drive connection.

A screenshot of Disk Management from your laptop will be helpful if problems persist.

chkdsk doesn't work it has it is RAW format.

The error I get when trying to access the drive is:
    0x8007048F : device not connected.

Will system restore produce any results since it just changes drive C (the os drive)?

I also tried reseating the drive. Nothing.

I would probably try swapping drive bays to troubleshoot further. You know the SSD and its connection are good in its current location. If you move the HDD there and it still has a detection issue, it indicates the drive may be defective. Likewise, if the SSD loses its connection after the move, it indicates the drive connection is bad.

Alternatively, you could try testing the HDD in another system, even a desktop system.

well I switched the seats and the stock 750 gb hdd still wont show sometimes. I want to try and restore the mbr because I used a Hardware Detection said that it has a grub2 mbr. However, even when it does show in bios, it doesn't appear in windows' disk part utility

I had an OCZ Vertex 2 doing the same thing in the 2nd bay, and after 2 months of this pain, no boot!

RMA (for the 2nd time) - mobo broken, and GPU too...

So what is the problem with this P O S lappy???

My warranty ends in july, I stopped overclocking the GPU, I have only 1 HDD now, the XT Momentus, and itīs getting tired the SMART scan reveals...

Probably move on to Clevo I guess.

if restoring MBR will not help then just format the drive, delete partitions, create them and hope that it will never happen again.

Does the HDD appear if you use a 3rd party disk partitioning tool, such as Partition Magic, that runs from a bootable CD, outside of Windows?

Still, all is not well if the HDD is not recognized EVERY time by the BIOS. You need storage media that is a little more dependable than that...
