Hmm, I'll give that a try. Got a quick link for it before I start hunting google (I'm being lazy I know ) CAN'T wait until next monday, haha, must play BF3 now! You know what's odd though, I played the BF3 beta, and didn't have a single GSOD. Have always had GSOD with bfbc2, maybe the frostbite engine doesn't agree with something here?

Edit: Oh and to answer your question, seems to be only BFBC2 and BF3 since I updated to 11.9, happened once in a long long while with Civ V as well. Weird symptoms, doesn't really tell you much does it?

Edit 2: Nevermind, got the link, let's see if this works. Here it is if anyone else is interested: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...eDriverV3.aspx

My version differs from Gary's in that:

    1) Battery clocks are set to 250/500
    2) Overdrive is enabled.

Scroll up to 1st post for instructions, but use my OD vBIOS and use updateod.bat, instead of Vflash.bat as stated above.
Link is broken I really need to try and update my VBIOS with something other than the one released with the asus gsod fix. Ive updated my bios to 211 and vbios to 012.020.000.032 and I still cant update my ati drivers past 8.9 (Even after a clean win7 install)

I'm thinking of buying this laptop off of Tiger-direct

    Buy the Asus G73JH-BST7 I7 6GB 640G Refurbished Notebook at TigerDirect.ca

All this talk about the bios being faulty and causing errors and not being able to play games with a good framerate or without it skipping is really deterring me from purchasing the laptop.

I suppose the questions I have will be, will the laptop now have updated bios because it has been out for a while or not?

Also If I have to update the bios and vbios, is this a hard process (as I have never done either) and is it guraunteed to fix the problem?

    Thank you for your help!

PS I am also looking to play BF3, is that going to have issues with GSOD?

Well as you can see from the forum, the G73s are hit or miss. I have used several of them and had various hardware problems. I've seen screen problems, RAM problems, and Radeon GPU issues. I did manage to get one that is flawless however and have had it for 1.5 years now.

The GSOD problem was primarily caused by differences between a few Radeon boards they were using. The boards with the GSOD issue tended to need to run one specific driver release (the ASUS download) or they would GSOD. Gary Key got AMD to write a new vBIOS that at least partially fixed the problems. Not all Radeon boards were problematic or needed a BIOS update.

Essentially yes these notebooks are troublesome but you can get ones that are flawless. Unfortunately ASUS could have done a lot better with their quality control and cut fewer corners.

Make sure you get a warranty / return policy if you buy one.

I have to agree on this one, I got the G73jh because it was the cheapest gaming laptop I could get , and I think I may regret it, first one had the phychedelic screen problem, had it replaced, second one overheating problems, changed thermal paste and it broke (maybe my fault), send it to the repair center, came back still hot, changed thermal paste, got it lower but wasn't satisfied and people on the forums had even lower temps, did it again without great success, it survived about 2 months or so before breaking again, out of warranty so had to pay for repair, now I am afraid to repaste, and it's still running on the hot side (not extremely hot tho )

@ rorage these notebooks run hot because the GPU heatsink is the minimum they could get away with. 90C is going to be the norm, especially if we're talking Furmark. Don't worry about the heat if it's running stable. Besides it does have thermal protection and shuts down if it hits around 110C.

Some people go way past that temp because of how the VRAM thermal pads can cause partial GPU/heatsink contact loss. The weak spring loaded design doesn't compress then well. I went so far as to remove the springs and installed shims so I could tighten it better, but then the motherboard just flexes. It's just not robustly designed IMO.

I really do not recommend going inside to try to improve the cooling. Use the warranty instead. Much less risk. There is a lot that can go wrong when messing around in a notebook...

I am having problems with my G73Jh have GSOD. I didn't have problems with it until I did a clean install. I've updated to the 'new' drivers for the graphics card the sound via ASUS: http://support.asus.com/Download.asp...age=en&m=G73Jh

I know that I need to update the vBios via: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread...ght=GSOD+g73jh

What do I need to do first?
Update all the drivers listed on Asus support.
    Update Bios to 211.
    Then follow the above directions?

    OR
Update to Bios 211 and flash it?

    Thanks.

first update the bios to 211 or 213 then update the vbios.
Updating the rest of the drivers is always a good idea but not needed in this case.

    Thanks WarWyrm.
How do I tell what version my current bios are? I've been pressing random F keys... This is my first Asus and it's so different from Dell. 0.o
If I have version 209 can I update straight to 211?
    How about straight to 213?
