I won’t, I simply won’t comment on that one Chas but the mind boggles. I never had a secretary you see but they must be hot. And big too

Re: How to Fix Your GSOD Blues
@alex, your temps are really hot for just browsing the web. 81°C Idle for your Ati Card is in my eyes way to much. I have 57C idle, with a room temperature at 22. So if you have like 8C more room temp, then should your Ati not be higher than 65 and not 81 :S
My advice is to send it in for RMA for a repaste. You could do it yourself, but it's a little bit risky. And if you do it wrong, then it might actually worse than before.

Re: How to Fix Your GSOD Blues
man, I pretty much stopped reading this tread since mine is working just peachy besides touchpad issues and thats it (lucky me).
haven't heard from Gary in ages, last I heard, he was saying bad words at asus. Welp, I guess anyone would with all the frustration there has been.
in a few months, my next step will be to switch to ic diamond once I actually start doing some intense gaming on this thing.
anyway, good luck everyone. Can't wait for a touchpad fix.happy owner of - Win 7 - Asus G73jh-A1 - i7-720qm @ 1.6 GHz (2.8 GHz) - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 - 8 gig ram - 1920 x 1080 res.

Re: How to Fix Your GSOD Blues
@Chastity or anybody that could help me.
Hey man, you seem to be pretty good at fixing VSOD / GSOD on the g73jh series. That is why I need your help. I want to know what to do to fix my problem. I sent my computer twice to asus repair center, it took 2 months and I still get many vsods. I'm a little frustrated and now I just feel like doing all this stuff on my own. As far as I've checked, my bios version is 211 and my vbios seems to be older than the 012.020.000.032.038352 since the last number starts by something like .037...
2 things will trigger vsods on my computer : running sc2, full hd resolution with ultra graphics settings will cause it to fail within 30 minutes. The screen will black out for a split second many times before it happens. I could actually tell when its about to crash. lowering graphics = no vsods, or almost never. ( but i dont want to lower graphics on a gaming computer, if I did want to do that i would have bought a cheaper laptop right? ;p)
Running the donut will cause it to happen after 2 minutes. the gpu temperature doesnt go above 87 celcius while doing the donut. I use HDMI out and I hook my computer up to a 24 inch ASUS screen with full hd display. The lid of my computer is shut at all times.
Also, Catalyst is version 10.6. I dont know which version is ideal.
So basically, i need all my computer features (hdmi out working) with no VSODS.
catalyst 10.6 / bios 211 / vbios .037something
note that my bios version is 211 and not 0211 (as displayed when i press f2), i dont know if they are the same.
Should I update my Vbios and catalyst to 10.8 (I want hdmi out to work)? Im really noob with all this stuff so.. thats why i need help ! ;p
*also, for some reason it wont let me create a fat 32 usb drive, is it because my usb disc is too old and i should buy a new one?
Thanks for your advices.

Re: How to Fix Your GSOD Blues
Based on this info, you need to update your vBIOS. Too many times I've read that the vBIOS was flashed by Asus, and they keep using that damn older one which doesn't work.
Grab the one from my sig, and if you are having issue with making a USB boot stick, you can use a USB HDD too. You can also try FAT16 (or FAT) on that stick, if it's under 1GB.

Re: How to Fix Your GSOD Blues
WOW thank you SO MUCH! This fix actually works! I just used a 16 mb usb card in FAT and the flash seemed to work because i ran the hairy donut test for over 10 mins now at 87 degrees, NEW RECORD. :P The system is really stable now. I didnt get any screen fumbles of any kind while running the test. Now I need to check for some sc2 at ultra settings.
Thanks again!

Re: How to Fix Your GSOD Blues
Chastity any idea why I might be getting GSOD's even though I updated to the new VBIOS?
I orginally installed the VBIOS before I installed Gary's VBIOS and thought that might have any issue with what was happening earlier so I flashed yours. One time it was a pretty orange, the second time it was an orange Sherbert color with vertical lines running up and down.
Here is what I've done/tried so far 211 BIOS, Gary and your VBIOS-es, Powerplay disabled, Creative Driver fix, I've tried Catalyst 10.10, 10.10C, and 10.7a on Gary's and I've tried 10.7a, and I'm now trying 10.10 with yours, and temps seem to be just fine.
VBIOS under GPUZ: 012.020.000.032.038352
Thanks!

Re: How to Fix Your GSOD Blues
Hi Chastity & all...
I'm new to the gaming laptop world and have an issue with my new G73JH. I found this thread and it looks related.
Issue#1: Playing a DVD or data CD with video on it, the laptop seems to crash/blank out with an error noise after several minutes. To fix, I've been doing a force shut down.
Issue#2: Surfing the net after some time (sometimes only 30mins) the screen goes grey or striped grey. Once it recovered after a few seconds saying there had been a driver error with the ATI Radeon Family card. Usually I need to force shutdown.
So Far:
Asus recommended I reinstall the OS. Problem still there before & after doing windows updates. Have installed catalyst_mobility_64-bit_util... and supposedly have latest updates.
So...
I've seen the discussion in this thread so far. What are the latest recommendations? Is it related?
System Info:
Microsoft WIndows 7 Home Premium Version 6.1.7600 x64bit
i7 Q720 @1.6Ghz
Bios Version: G73JH.204, 11/01/2010
SMBios Version: 2.6
Graphics:
Catalyst version: 10.8
Bios Version: 012.017.000.004
Cheers.

Re: How to Fix Your GSOD Blues
@1kingdom247: Update your vBIOS, link is below.
You have the old stock vBIOS which causes crashes with the Catalyst you are using.
