New Asus Blu-Ray software package now available for Download
Hey all,
I don't know how many have caught this.
But if you go to Asus downloads support:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
Choose "Notebooks" under the "select product" tab and then choose "Apps" under the "select series" tab, there'll be a host of software apps for all Asus notebooks.
If you choose "AsusDVD" you'll see it's a new Blu-Ray software suite posted on 7/16/10 which has a bundle of PowerDVD 9 ultra that will play Blu-Rays, PowerDirector 8, Power2Go, PhotoNow and Label Print.
It seems to run more stable for me than my purchased PowerDVD 10 ultra which is frustrating, but I'd expect no less from as shady a company as Cyberlink.
I honestly can't tell the difference in quality between PowerDVD 9 and PowerDVD 10 other than the 3D capabilities which currently I have no use for.
For those that have been looking for true Blu-Ray software, it can now be found at Asus support site.
Again, it's called AsusDVD.
Cheers to those other members that pointed out looking under the apps tab for notebooks on Asus support site before. It's how I found this software bundle which seems to have posted only roughly a month ago.
Again apologies if this is old news.
Peace!

THX5334, This is a great improvement over what came with mine (winDVD8). I have been using it for a few days, and it does what I need. I do not see an option for updates, just upgrading to version 10.
IT also hijacks your file associations but this is easy to remedy in Win 7

I think someone else might have posted it, but still thanks for the post. I think it's a good move by ASUS to remedy the G73 blu-ray situation. Unfortunately, some folks already purchased software. (Mine didn't come with a BD player, so I didn't really expect any software from them.)

Can you maybe post the exact version number of asusdvd?
I just wonder before I start the really slow download if it's newer than my installed version.

When this app finishes d/l'ing, or should I say crawling, I'll post a mirror link.
THX5334: How is your PDVD 10 Ultra unstable? Mine plays just fine.

Re: New Asus Blu-Ray software package now available for Download
I've downloaded it twice from the "China" mirror, which has a much greater bandwidth than the others for some reason. Problem is, two of the CAB files within the .ZIP appear to be corrupt (according to WinRAR). I thought it was just my download so I pulled it down a second time, and the results were the same.
Looking for a mirror of a version that passes CRC checking.
EDIT Re-downloading from the Global mirror at god-awful speed.Last edited by Pandages; 13th August 2010 at 06:12 PM.

^^^^^^Good Call, I always use the Global Mirror (usually overnight) for anything over 100 Meg from ASUS.
PATO, PowerDVD 9 v 9.02829.50
when you look at the ASUS site it is listed as ASUSDVD 7...... ???

Re: New Asus Blu-Ray software package now available for Download
I'm trying to get the P2P torrent client thing to work. I was hoping I could use it to hash and fix the broken file from the Chinese mirror. It doesn't work, because the system lacks a .torrent file. Bittorrent DNA is a whole different approach that follows the same model as traditional torrents, but using the HTTP request for a normal download rather than a .torrent file. As such, no hash seems to exist. More importantly, the P2P client is running no faster than the Global mirror.
We need a mirror.
