Asus G73JH Newbie Thread
Hello to all!
I've been looking through forum and noticed a lot of questions from new owners of G73JH. Questions like: "What should I do first?", "What should I do if .... happened?", "I've got the problem..." All of this questions were discussed here, but it's hard to go though 200+ threads to find answers. So, I decided to help a little bit. This thread is compilation of links for extremely useful threads that will help new owners of G73JH.
Let's start form beginning. You have received your laptop.
OS optimization
First question that appears "What should I install/remove to get stable system?" You have two ways:
First You can use this guide and remove all bloatware that will decrease your performance. Thanks goes to David.
Second option is to do fresh Windows install. Here is thread made by Kalim(Thanks for him), that describes this process thoroughly. I can suggest to install recent versions of wireless drivers and video drivers.
Windows 7 random lock up issue can be fixed using update listed here Fix for random Win7 lockups
Important update Steam lock up issue is solved now. You do not need to disable bassboost in your creative application. look this thread Creative Audio Center lock up fix
Bios and vbios update
Now when you finished with OS optimization you can go further with bios(IF NEEDED) and vbios(IF NEEDED). Before starting that read carefully, that no one will take responsibility for your system damage, if you will brick your laptop. So, do it on your risk.
Now, if you want most recent bios you should go for this tread.(Thanks goes for stubbornswiss ). If you are experiencing GSODs or you just want vbios with optimal settings of powerplay and voltages with unlocked overdrive. You should look this thread(Thanks for dkillone) and this thread(Thanks for ziddy123).
Update Please refer to this thread How to Fix Your GSOD Blues if you are experiencing GSODs issue. That will solve your problems. Have fun.
If your keyboard lights are not working after bios update look this thread Keyboard Light Fix (Gary Key)
Benchmarking
Now, when you have everything tuned and optimized you can test your system with recent benchmarks and compare it with others in this thread (Nice thread Mandrake). Many people have concerns about GPU temperature you can look this thread.
Update You can referto this thread if you are interested in thermal paste replacement in your G73
Important note Do not do any modifications with your notebook(i.e replace thermal paste) if you are not experienced in it. Just take it to your nearest Asus certified Service Center and ask them to do it for you. Thread is given only as informative link to help you choose best thermal paste.
Troubleshooting
If, unfortunately, you are experiencing problems here is thread that will help to solve most widespread problems(Thanks HellCry).
Taking advantage of Accidental Damage warranty
Now if you recident of USA or Canada you can also take advantage of 1 year of Accidental Damage warranty from Asus. To claim for that warranty you need to register you laptop on Asus website within 60 days after purchase. Look here for detailes.
RMA
In worst case, you can RMA your laptop. Here is guide how to do this(David thanks again).
Tweaking your laptop
If you want to play around with performance and tweak your lappy you can look this thread(Betaflame)
Hope that tread will help you! If you will have additional questions I will try to help you and I hope that all expert users that have G73Jh will give their advices to you.
P.S and last but not the least Enjoy your new Laptop.Last edited by Tim4; 11th September 2010 at 02:33 AM.

That would be unbelievably helpful. Consolidating all the information in one place.Actually, I've been considering a webpage for all this stuff, especially since I have a domain and lotsa storage doing nothing atm.
I'm weighing the options of doing the vBios flash but can't seem to get the courage to do so, and there hasn't been a "satisfactory" thread (imo) regarding the benefits/pitfalls of the upgrade.
Everything seems to working fine with my current stock setup but I do want the temperature reductions and OverDrive features +stability with 10.6 Cats and OC'ing.
Decisions.

Very good summary.... one addition though http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus...ml#post6281245
by beta flame.....
I have been bookmarking threads for the last month or two (g73 is in the mail) and this seems to have made most of that effort useless : )
