specifically, the error log bugcheck will say 4 0x# 0 0, implying a PCI-E (and usually GPU) error, but it works perfect on stress and benchmarking runs. usually the 0x124 (uncorrectable hardware error) stops are the most accurate ones, but in this case (i _think_) it's actually trying to write to a BIOS-reserved address, and therefore gets the BSOD. no real problem with PCI.
windows XP ignores the write, so i would suggest switching for the time being until Asus releases a fix.

im by no means a debugging expert (but not too shabby with olly ), so i suggest someone on windows 7 posts their crash dump (256k mini, change in advanced system settings) and submit this thread to Asus support.

for anyone on windows 7, theres no workaround i know of.

    edit: ***DRIVERS FOR XP**

for anyone using the guide below, note these 2 changes:
SATA: USE PCHM 6-PORT (BOTTOM OF THE LIST). THIS IS CALPELLA
    LAN: http://download2.msi.com/files/downl..._lan_vx_mb.zip

    2 most important components changed
i wanna go XP, but where can i find the drivers?

    can i just follow http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...78#post5353978 ?
or do i have to use different drivers than the one for G51VX ?

Yes, follow that guide but with the changes thalanix specified and you quoted. The SATA being most important as without that change you won't be able to boot your slipstreamed xp disc.

Its happening in more than one game for some people. Its exceedingly unlikely.

yup, looks like it's not a bug in the G51J and it's not ASUS fault, or is it?

IT IS ASUS fault because of buggy BIOS.
Of course people will get blue screens in W7. This OS is not perfect.

Here almost all of us get BSOD with exactly the same stop code

    WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (124)

That's what we're trying to solve.

The link given by tigerlp is just a general thread about bsods in w7...
