Re: G51j Blue screen of death problems
Honestly ASUS what the h*ll is wrong with this computer? I have only one game installed and from the beginning I've only seen problems. First was BOSD, but that went away after turning Extreme Turbo on. Now whenever I play the game weird things start happening randomly with the laptop. For example, during the game the computer starts making beep noises through speaker or earphones and it'll skip scenes a few times and at time if I press "D" or "Space" keyboard key’s it'll start making the noise even more. At some point I couldn't use the in game chat, because the keyboard wouldn't type text. I mean its a 4 yearold game and it never game me issues on my ASUS M51, M50 or the G50vt.
It’s not only games that are an issue, but today I lost a portion of my work, because 3ds Max decided to freeze while the fan went on and so I was forced to end the task. For what its worth I love this notebook in most part, but it's been almost a month since people started noticing these issues, so I expect a fix from ASUS or a replacement.Last edited by Cheeseman; 29th November 2009 at 03:37 AM.

Re: G51j Blue screen of death problems
Yes. Made in China, probably for the cheap labor.
I understand that most non-Chinese would have the same feeling towards China about its fake products, but I think it is a bit naive to draw a conclusion so prematurely.
To be honest, I do not like China either, but I believe in QC.
"Made in China" would not really mean the whole product is made in China. I presume some parts (e.g. the CPU) will be made in Malaysia or other parts of the world, and after assembly ASUS and the retailer will perform QC on the product, and even if it fails afterwards, there is 2~3 years warranty.
I do hope ASUS will provide an ultimate fix on the issue, though.Notebook: ASUS G51J-A1

Re: G51j Blue screen of death problems
Hi all... Just posting my experiences. Bought a G51j new from Ottawa on Friday. It had the latest BIOS already installed. Have been playing MW2 for about 3 hours and in that time had 3 x bsod. The word disappointed hardly describes what Im feeling about this notebook. However, Im optimistic for a fix

Re: G51j Blue screen of death problems
I've had no BSOD yet on my G51J, I must be doing something wrong.
I finished COD MW2 single player and did some multiplayer yesterday, probably a total of 5 hours, no problems on max settings @ native res in performance mode (no turbo). Stock factory Win7 install, latest BIOS, latest drivers.

Re: G51j Blue screen of death problems
I think I may know what your problem is.
I tried playing Batman and the same thing happened to me... Turns out by default (maybe just for me), two additional chinese languages were added to my keyboard settings, and to switch to them you had to press shift and alt, so I would do that on accident, and it would render most of my keyboard useless in-game.
Check your keyboard language settings, and delete any additional languages, and the hotkeys to switch to them, if they may appear.
When I had that issue, pressing space in batman would bring up a beeping sound.
So far, with the creative EAX software uninstalled (just stuck with the Realtek HD audio driver provided on the ASus support website for this laptop), I have not encountered any actual freezing of the computer itself, or BSOD in game (played alott of fallout 3 the other day).

Re: G51j Blue screen of death problems
Made in China means that was where it was assembled. if you dug into the laptop itself, the wifi card (maybe cpu/gpu) will have 'Made in' tags (1000 and 5300 are also China).
as mentioned, the keyboard thing would probably be because of the language packs.
what game?
never knew cod ran in wine
.
it's not the greatest game to check, as i went through 6 hours of sp on veteran without issues as well. MW1 and borderlands are best, but still flaky on it.

Re: G51j Blue screen of death problems
You Sir were correct on that Chinese/Taiwanese keyboard language thing. I was not aware it came installed by default, but I quickly removed it and hopefully when I get the time I'll test it out with good results.
A rep to you.
