IBM Thinkpad T series

Hi, I am new here and I have a few questions for the informed group. TIA.

I am looking for an IBM Thinkpad T series. Do IBM ship the the new Thinkpads in generic brown shipping box or ones with fancy IBM logos?

I saw a T40 at Tigerdirect and it said was new with 3 year warranty but the box was brown shown on their website.

What are good places to buy the T series? I can either get a new T40 or a refurbished T23, sort of the two extreme ends of the spectrum. I saw a nice refurbished T23 with a 48 Gb drive for $800 but I was not ready to buy yet. Now it is gone.

Are these refurbished lease returns or they are in almost as new condition? I saw a lot of T21 and T22 refurbished.

yes, all IBM machines are shipped in brown boxes with the big blue IBM logo when new.

The T23 is an older model with a PIII processor, I'd recommend not going with it. The T40 is a much nicer notebook with more of the latest IBM software and hardware features on it. The T40 is also thinner and lighter even though it has a bigger screen. However, if you can get the T23 for a great deal and you are on a budget it's a good notebook. I actually have both the T40 and T23 in my posession so ask any specific questions you want answered!

I agree with you that I won't get a T23 unless it is a good deal. The T23 does have the higher resolution screen. The deal is dead for now but $800 is a good deal, I think.

The T40 I am looking at has Pentium M 1.3 GHz, 512MB RAM, 40 GB HD and no wireless card for $1399.

I bought it thru IBM and it's a refurbished product. I don't know if IBM.com has it since I live in Canada and bought it at ibm.ca/store.
As far as I know, it's like a brand new when I got the product, no fan problem, LCD is perfect and everything is in order.
PM1.3, 30G, 256MB,Wireless...I am a happy customer. It costs me a total of CDN$2086 (incl.shipping and all taxes)

i'm currently gathering 'insight' on buying the refurbished item, especially ibm because i've special interest on the t40 but the new one is just way too expensive.

would appreciate any comment, experience, and recommended location (preferably online store, since am residing outside US) to get the refurbished item. []

1399 for a T40? You've got to be kidding me.

you can get a BRAND NEW T/R61 for 1400, why on earth would you get anything from TigerDirect?

That is also a really bad deal. You can get an HP or something that will be much, much better for that same price. Sounds like you really want a thinkpad, but for some reason you're going about it in a completely wrong way.

Hell, even older model Rs on lenovo's website are a better deal than that.
