I'd check out eBay, you'll have your best chance of getting a nice one there.
Look for IBM ThinkPads, T20-T23's are good choices.

Hi,
I have an older laptop for sale that is in very good condition, it is a Compaq Presario 1930 laptop that has the following specs:
Intel Celeron 433 Mhz
9.3 GB Harddrive
128MB Ram(you should probably upgrade this)
2x DVD-rom Drive
Floppy Disc
(The above 2 are in a removable wedge if you don't need to carry those around all the time)
Windows XP
13.3" Screen
Battery(doesn't hold a charge)
AC Adapter
I'll offer this to you for $200, and I also have a Wireless G Card for $25, and a Targus Messenger Bag case for $10. If you're interested, please e-mail at jpacubas@gmail.com.

A good place to look is your local computer repair shops. They usually have used laptops.
Really cheap laptops usually cost really high in the long run .
I'd buy the cheapest Dell/White box with warranty then a used / over heating / bad screen / uncompatible / P3 with a dead battery that could choke any day .

i have one for you but ill take 425 that includes overnight shipping its a good laptop 1 gig ram 80 gig hard drive built in wireless 16 inch screen dvd cd combo im offering a low price but im trying to buy a mac next week when i get my check and i need this to help cover so yeah get back to me at crawfordb18@yahoo.com
For $100 I'd be willing to let you have my ThinkPad 570. With a 333mhz CPU and 10gb hard drive it's nothing fancy but XP Pro SP2 still runs reliably andrather quick and I'm able to run all my PowerPoints, video files, MP3s and watch videos on sites like YouTube.
