Default Buying Laptops from Overseas

Dear forumers,

I am thinking of buying a Toshiba M700/ Asus R1E/ HP TX2000 from one of the USA merchant sites. Toshiba, Asus and HP sites in the USA do not shipped overseas.

I look at Provantage.com. But i was told by the customer service officer that they do not shipped laptops overseas outside of USA as they are restricted by the vendors.

Next, i looked at PortableOne.com. I spoke to them and they told me that they are able to shipped the laptop to me.

Why is there a difference in policy between PortableOne and Provantage? Why does one allow shipment overseas while another one does not?

Beside the Fedex charges that i am supposed to pay, is there any other charges that i must be aware of? Would there be any sale charges or other charges that the customs in either country will imposed?

BTW, i am based in Singapore. Thanks for your help.

There may be duty to pay when and where the goods are received outside the U.S. I would also think that there's less control over what happens when dealing with international trade with shipping, returns, and retailer-offered warranty. Hence retailers would rather not deal with international customers.

If there is problem, does it meant that i will have to fedex it back to the USA?

The M700 that i am interested in comes with a 3 year warranty from Toshiba. Why is PortableONe only offering one year and i need to pay extra to upgarde it to 3 year???

Any answer?

Depends on the warranty, for instance the toshbia tecra m9 series can be purchased with a world warranty. Some international retailers offer mack warranty(which works decently for camera/lenses),but dicey for laptops.Others offer their own warranty like dynamism.I would make sure that it is covered by international warranty and that your country is eligible.Provantage is like staples, they cater more to the corporations in the US.
