Default What should I do with this ???

I have a Gateway Solo 2500, about 10 yrs old, haven't used in 4 yrs, back says H1.7/BCSW ?
The black leather case is probably woth more ?

If this isn't worth anything, can anyone please instruct me how to clean everything out before I donate it ??

Thanks!

I imagine it's worth more to someone on the receiving end of the charitable donation. You'd get very little for it if you sold it.

Download a program called Killdisk, this will destroy any data on the HDD. Make sure you've not left any floppy disks or cd's in it, then send it to a new home.

Thanks for the quick response, I had a feeling about that.

I'm a computer newbie and it's not hooked up at all- are you saying I have to disrupt and disconnect everything on my current pc, hook up the old one and do all that ??

That seems like a LOT of problems for me ??

if you don't plan to use it, i'd say find a computer recycling service (a reputable one) and take it to them. You might have to pay a small fee, but they reuse the reusable materials and dispose of the harmful toxic ones properly.

No, you don't need to mess with your current pc.

1. Download Killdisk on your current pc, and save it on a usb drive, floppy drive, or cd.

2. Plug in and power up your old laptop.

3. Transfer Killdisk onto your old laptop via usb drive, floppy, cd, or whatever.

4. Run Killdisk.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Pixelot, that doesn't sound so bad, I just have to figure out how to save to a cd- never done that before.

Then I just have to power up the notebook, just the power plug to the wall, that's it- nothing else needs to be connected ??
