Price check on a Sager 5720
Hello, soon to be preordering a Sager 9261 with the 8800M GTX SLI from XoticPC, so it's time to retire my Sager 5720. Just looking for a price check considering that it's 2 years old as of last September. I appreciate you taking the time to help. I have a buyer, just don't want to rip him off. And vice versa of course.
Specifications:
Screen: 17" 1920x1200 Glossy
Processor: Pentium M ( 770 ) 2.13 GHz 533MHz
RAM: 2GB PC4200 533DDR2 RAM
HD: 60gb 7200rpm
Video Card: nVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 GTX w/ 256MB GDDR3
Optical Drive: 8x DVD-/+ w/Lightscribe
Intel PRO Wireless a/b/g
Built-in Bluetooth
OS: XP Professional SP2
Blimmishes:
- 1.3 BisonCam doesn't work. After re-re-re-reinstalling drivers. It just shows a black screen.
- being a gamer, there is a palm print on the body where your palm rests for "wasd". Looks like its "burned" into the silver paint.
Thanks for any replies.

Re: Price check on a Sager 5720
Generally speaking, a used laptop without warranty and some missing features is going to be a hard sell at a price that would be beneficial to you. So pretty much I assume that you are just trying to get what you can from it. In that case, my general rule is to use one third of the original purchase price per year of age considering a laptop lifespan is only 2 years on average. As an example I would charge:
Purchase price: $1,500.00
Used price: $375.00
Thats just my oppinion, but its what I go by. I dont think that 1/3rd of the original price tag is unreasonable in most cases unless the laptop doesnt function enough to use.
Sincerely,
Travis Aaron

Re: Price check on a Sager 5720
TravisA,
Thanks for the quick reply. I totally agree with you about the warranty and lifespan of notebooks. The buyer is a friend and the last thing i want to do is rip him off. And like you said, i'm not too concerned about how much i get, just tryin to get rid of it. I have to admit that i was thinking around $500. Is that too much for a $2200 original price? I'm all about constructive critizism so blast me if im charging too much lol.
Thanks again

Re: Price check on a Sager 5720
that notebook is still pretty decent. 375 is much too low, even 500. depending on overall condition, you can probably sell that setup for 600-700, probably more. hopefully other users will correct me and give you more price quotes for a better scale.

Re: Price check on a Sager 5720
icecubez189,
Thanks for the post. The overall condition is pretty good. Monthly, I unscrew the back plate and blow out all the dustbunnies that somehow work their way into the system. My only comparison on quality/condition was my first laptop, Sager 5680. Like most other 5680s, the hinges on the LCD made cracks form and the laptop fell apart. Reluctingly trying Sager again, i quickly knew Clevo got it right with the quality of the 5720s. For 2 years, knock on wood, i haven't had one problem (besides the BisonCam) to say otherwise. The palm print actually happened within the first week of owning the laptop. The buyer just wants to play games like AOE3 and the Dawn of War series. He's not into games like Crysis.
So, now I can feel comfortable about selling this laptop to him. Again, I really do appreciate the help.

Re: Price check on a Sager 5720
I'd give you $500 easy for it, it's worth $700ish since it was the top of the line system 2-3 years ago, and the high-end name brand laptops tend to keep their value much better than the cheapo compaqs/emachines/gateways

Re: Price check on a Sager 5720
500-700 is about right.
